Smile Armscor 1911

Does anybody know anything about the Armscor 1911? A friend of mine saw one at a gun shop the other day and said it was a pretty nice gun for the money ($299 w/2 clips). Just looking for some info.

I think that's a super buy. If he's prepared to spend the $$$ I'd say go for it.

I have no experience myself, but a 1911-savvy buddy on another forum site had mega problems with an Armscor 1911. Badly fitted barrel, and the company would/could not fix it after several returns - poor customer service.
Just one example I know.

how about a Norinco as a cheap 1911 style gun ? Many people swear by them. The only problem might be that they are Chi/Com if you care about that stuff. I'd like to get one one of these days since I love the 1911 design.

Thumbs up

Norincos are good guns! They use a heavier frame than most newer 1911 clones, and many custom builders like to use them as a chassis.

I own a model of 1911 Norc. It's reliable and shoots all the time - 'cept when a bad ammo case jammed badly..But beyond that, Norincos are good guns - and cheap too! Several gunsmiths I know would bet on a Norc..And they love its sturdy construction, and they say that it's easy to tinker with and to modify/customize. Just wish that the out of the box Norc would come with a better grip as standard. Armscor guns are good too - I've read in the 1911 forum..Had yet to own one to see for myself.

Welcome attyjuan!

I know someone who just purchased a Norinco and was talking of building a custom piece because of the frame. The actual gun felt really good in my hands and like others have said the grips are pretty nice out of the box. I hope my friend lets me shoot it next time we go to the range, I don't have a lot of expierence behind a .45.

Armscor 1911 models & Rock Island Armory are ok but they DO have flaws. From personal experience I've noticed that the Firing pin tends to "mushroom" and after a few hundred rounds the gun is incapable of shooting. Also the main spring in the slide wears out. It Jams alot too and I would honestly recommend saving the precious money and buying either the new smith and wesson 1911 or even a colt.

FYI...Armscor Weapons are Mfg. in the Phillipines and first imported by Armscorp Precision in San Mateo ,California up until 1991. Barrels during this period are marked "Armscorp Precision".Then from 1991 - 1995 Imported by Ruko located in Buffalo, N.Y. and Barrels will be stamped "Ruko--Armscor" during this period. From 1995 forward they are imported by K.B.I. inc. in Harrisburg, Pa, and the marking is "Armscor" !
As far as I know all 1911A1 Pistols were imported starting 1996 so they should be marked accordingly! They used to retail for 399.00 in 1998.
I've never had one come thru the shop for repairs as of yet so I can't give you a Gunsmiths opinion of one.

Triplesixcoe,
I have the RIA and it has functioned absolutely flawlessly. It has never once jammed, missfired or any other bad things.
It has shot all ammo I put through it including reloads with FMJ and HP. I have not found a brand of ammo it hasnt fired perfectly.
If the firing pin tends to mushroom after a few hundred rounds and the slide spring wears out, well, quite frankly I dont believe it. Its a well built gun and mine has WAY more rounds through it than a few hundred.
I didnt like the Armscorp version for one simple thing...the way the "Armscorp Precision" was stamped and highlited in white on the slide. Other than that it offered some upgrades over the RIA.
BigDog, sorry to hear about bad service on one. I guess it can happen with any manufacturer. My dealer has never had one returned to him and he did tell me the warranty is as good as any gun produced today.
I really like my RIA!!!

I don't know anything about those guns, but I do know a little about Norinco's. I like them and viwe them as a great buy if you can get one for under $400.00. I purchased one for $225.00 out the door a few months ago and tweaked it a little. It is a very nice carry gun, now.

Some new guts, a Captain Eagle barrel Bushing, a new barrel link and pin, some bigger sights, some skateboard tape after we re-blued it, some nice Apple Jack grips, and off we go! It is a Keeper now.

armscor M1911a1-45 FS GI

I own armscor 1911 its nice!! i like 1911 design.. lots of safe mode.. armscor is really an export quality.. i don't believe that armscor is a crap gun. for your info armscor made the rock island armory (RIA) and tranfoglio handgun. actually when im searching for a good gun, i dunno what 1911 will i buy.. a norinco or an armscor.. i choose armscor because lots of forums i read they said norinco is only good when you look at it.. (try to see this site: Google Image Result for http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y250/rug357/Norinco/a535a6f8.jpg) if you see that pic thats a norinco's barrel.. if you want to see my gun try to visit this: www.friendster.com/bcrich666 its M1911a1-45 FS GI all stock

..my gun never jammed because i don't cock my gun like a gay..try to cock your gun like a boastful man so it wont jammed

ARMSCOR 1911 INFO

I OWN AN ARMSCOR 1911 .45 ACP I THINK I MUST HAVE FIRED 3000 ROUNDS WITH IT ALREADY AND I DID NOT NOTICE ANY SIGN OF IT BEING OF BAD QUALITY. I UPGRADED THIS UNIT MYSELF AND DID SOME GUNSMITHING WITH IT. AS FAR AS THE MATERIAL IS CONCERNED I CAN ATTEST TO ITS HIGH QUALITY. I WAS ABLE TO WORK ON TWO UNITS OF NORINCO ALSO AND FOUND OUT THAT THE MATERIAL IS A LITTLE HARDER THAN ARMSCOR. I JUST NOTICE THOUGH THAT THE HARDNESS IS NOT EVEN. THERE ARE SOME SPOTS THAT ARE HARDER JUST LIKE IN WOOD WHERE A BRANCH USED TO BE. WHEN YOU PULL THE SLIDE IT FEELS GRITTY ON BOTH UNITS. THE ARMSCOR UNIT IS SMOOTH TO THE PULL. ACTUALLY BOTH ARE GOOD GUNS FOR THEIR PURPOSE. IF THEY ARE TO BE UPGRADED AND TUNED PROPERLY THEY CAN MATCH ANY IN THE MARKET FOR RELIABILITY. AND THAT`S WHAT WE WANT FROM ANY GUN. THE PRICE TOO ARE REASONABLY LOW FOR BOTH. MAYBE IT WOULD BE JUST A MATTER OF PREFERENCE NOW.

Armscors and RIA's are fine pistols, nothing wrong with them. I've heard the Norinco's are made from old railroad track, that's why they're so tough. Damn good steel in 'em.

Wow, I wonder how much truth there is to that. A friend had a catalog that listed a run of knives made fom German Tank barrels, and for some time I was selling furniture that was made from recycled building material from Thailand. I guess if you can cut corners without cutting quality you certainly keep your price point!

Recycling R good! RR tracks are made from some of the best steel there is, look at the pounding they have to take for years and years. I don't know how true it is, or how they recycle the steel, but that's what I've heard anyway. Norinco 1911's are supposed to be very high grade steel.
