A few folks out here use a 357 Rem Mag revolver for hunting deer. Haven't heard about any bad results. While PA deer aren't tiny, they're not mulies either.
If I were to hunt with a 357, it would be in a levergun and loaded as high as could be safely done for the particular levergun. Also wondering if a Marlin or Winchester Levergun could be easily rechambered to 357 Maximum since it could then still feed 38 Special and 357 Rem Mag.
What say ye all? Of course a 44 Rem Mag would be better, I'm just seeing if such a setup, which I'd want for a variety of reasons, could take PA whitetail or not.

i dont know the legalities in PA, but yes it would work. it would not be in my top 10 choices, but if you keep the shots short- 75yds or less it would suffice.
.357 is more than capable than taking whitetail. Here in Iowa they let us use .40 S&W for deer. If its capable of cleanly killing a deer then i would feel comfortable using a .357
In PA any manually operated arm firing a centerfire cartridge is legal for hunting deer. You could legally hunt deer with a 25ACP as long as it was not semi-auto. Whether the game wardens would beat you for being inhumane and stupid is another matter.
But a 357 Lever Action rifle would be perfectly legal for deer hunting in PA.
