Is there any ammo cheaper than .22LR?

...Is there any ammo that's cheaper than .22LR? My local Wal-Mart sells boxes of 550 rounds for $10 or so in .22LR... Can you get .22 short for less than that, or anything milsurp?

Nope. 22LR is the cheapest ammo. 22 short just isn't bought in enough volume.

Milsurp is better priced than commercial ammo of the same calibers, but no army uses 22LR as a standard issue round.

Yep, the shorts are higher priced - just not many folks use them anymore.
There are literally billions of .22LR produced anually - mega volume keeps the price down. :right:
Cheapest CF ammo is probably handloaded 9mm Luger - buying the components in bulk is cheap. But you still can't load it for as cheap as buying .22LR!

I bought my daughter a Heritage Rough Rider that has the magnum cylinder as well as the standard. I bought a box of fifty 22 WMR for what I pay for a box of 500 22 LR.

That equals $0.05 per round. 22 ammo is generally about $0.02 per round and it's newly manufactured and non-corrosive.
