Man shot three times while cleaning gun

Man shot three times while cleaning gun

05/12/05
http://news.mywebpal.com/news_tool_v...localnews&om=0

A Centre, Ala. man reportedly shot himself three times by accident while cleaning his gun on May 6. From Polk County police reports: Kole Eugene Maxwell, 18, of 10370 County Road, Centre, Ala., was transported to Polk Medical Center for several gun shot wounds to his right side. Police met with Maxwell at the hospital, where he said that he was cleaning his 9 mm pistol when it went off. According to reports, Maxwell would not or could not tell the officer what address he was at when the incident occurred. Police attempted to speak to the subject who had brought Maxwell to the hospital, though, the subject had already left. The scene was then turned over to investigators with the Polk County Police Department. Maxwell was treated and released from Polk Medical Center.

He's lucky he was cleaning a 9mm. He'd be a dead man had he been using a 45 or 357 he'd a blown his body into millions of bloody pieces. :spaceship

Just yesterday and today, I was hammered on a message board for posting a section of an opinion column and citing the link, which is proper internet etiquette. Some legal know-it-alls started busting my chops about copyright infringement and although they were wrong, tried citing legal quotations as to why their point was correct. Blah, blah, blah, blah.

I doubt that the guy shot himself three times. The facts that he would not give the cop any details and that he was dropped off at the hospital by someone who cleared out leads me to suspect that drugs were involved.

Either that or this guy was 50 cent.

Coulda been a junk Jennings, I won't even discuss working on one of those POS's, I have known of more than one of them slamfiring a whole magazine out! A dear friend of mine who is one of the best gunsmiths I know had a Jennings "run" on him a couple of years ago, actually caught a round on the tip of one finger. He took it back apart and gave it back to the customer in pieces minus the firing pin. There was also a sign placed on the door instructing anyone NOT to even bring one into the shop!

I suspect that he was determined to get the pistol clean. I mean, It seems that he must have tried three times?

Or he might have gone with the directions "Ensure firearm is unloaded before cleaning". The warning probably forgot to mention that pulling the trigger is not the right way to check this - happened before, e.g. the airport incident. Our trapmaster was telling me someone actually did this to him the other day (fortunately the shotgun was empty) :insane: The guy was promptly sent home for the day.

But I agree, something is fishy here.
