Talking Shot my Stoeger Luger today . . .

Oh man, I'm in love with this gun!!

I finally got to shoot it on paper at 15 yards - it's a real shooter!

I shot it along side my Browning Buckmark.
Started with the usual Winchester Dynapoints. The Luger was putting her twelve shots into an inch, dead on target! The Buckmark began at 2.5 inches, then tightened up to about an inch and a half.

Switched to Federal Lightnings. The Luger opened up just a bit, while the Buckmark tightened up a bit more - now they are shooting about the same.
Both guns had no hitches, except one Federal round in the Luger that was a dud.

I am mucho pleased with this gun! It may be an inexpensive gun, but it's no 'el cheapo'!

Since the Luger design ejects straight up, it was bouncing hot brass all over - many onto my buddy. Payback for last weekend, when he was pelting me with the 9mm's and .40's he was shooting! Hehehe.

...Wow. I'm buying one of those, most definitly, whenever I get the chance. o_O

...One inch at 25 yards? That's unbelieveable, especially from a Luger. o_o Geez, and .22LR? $400 sounds like a heck of a deal for one...

Fifteen yards, and the pistol cost me $200. This is the basic model, 4.5" barrel with fixed sights. There was also a "target model" with 5.5" barrel and adjustable rear sight. I'd love to find one of those!
This gun is definitely NOT the same as the German-made ERMA Luger, which is built more like a real Luger and costs much more!

This gun is long out of production, but they show up on the auction sites every so often. I had the advantage of seeing and shooting this one before plunking down my money! :right:

Big Dog, I'm glad to hear that your Stoeger Luger works. I owned one back in 1980 and it was a POS. The safety broke after one month and I had to send it back to the factory. It came back "semi-fixed". I'll never own one again.

I guess, like a lot of guns, quality control ran hot-and-cold at the factory. Glad you have a good one.

Stoeger luger owner for 10+ years

I bought a Stoeger stainless steel P-008 with a 6" barrel years ago and it has been my favorite ever since.
Without a doubt, the most iconic and famous pistol ever (witness the fact that most kids' squirt guns are and have been for many years, modeled after the P-08).
I saw the comment about the safety breaking in one of the other posts. It is true that the safety is very delicate and can be broken if the trigger is forced (and yes, that does blow!) but this is clearly stressed in the manual, which I have, being the owner of one purchased new.
The good news is that one can easily see if the safety is engaged or not, not just by looking at the safety lever but by also looking for the sliding safety bar to extend outward on the top of the left side of the frame (for those of us who forget what red means at the safety lever, and that does happen!).
What I also like, which I believe is unique to P-08's, is the brass extractor seen on the top of the pistol, This extractor is raised when there is a round in the chamber. I don't know of another pistol of the single action - concealed hammer variety that has such an indicator. I view status indicators, such as this, to be a very positive feature indeed.
The funny thing about peoples' reaction/feelings about the p-08 is that people either love them or hate them.
It's kinda like the Harley Davidson thing; it may be an old design it may be an archaic design and there certainly are better performing designs but there is nothing like a classic design, or better yet a classic design with a lot of charisma.

Howdy, PF! I am still enjoying my little Stoeger Luger - three years later! Love it when a feller drags up an old post, and we can see how things have gone.

The Browning Buckmark recently broke it's firing pin, while the Luger is going strong! So, even the quality pistols can have their problems.

So far, the Luger works with most ammo I have tried, though it doesn't seem to like CCI Blaser fodder.

There was apparently a manufacturing change along the way somewhere too. I bought a "Stoeger Luger" magazine at our local gunshow last month. It turns out to be much too short, and the follower button and latch hole are on the wrong side! Maybe they had a couple different models? Or they changed manufacturer, as Stoeger is an importer.
