Thumbs up Got a Swiss K31....

Went to Cabela's in Dundee today...wife bought me a Swiss K31 in about 90% condition metal wise....stock about 70% condition...got a few dents, scrapes. Shes cleaning up real good...had some surface rust on the trigger guard and the mag floorplate but that came off with a good scrubbing.
The rear handguard/sling holder clamp is in the white while the front handguard clamp has a parklike finish to it. Other than that metal is pretty good shape...bore is excellent.
All number matching....

How do you find out what year it is?
Where to find a decent sling and bayonet...it came with neither.
Best place for ammo?

This thing is pretty cool in a strange sort of way...

$120 OTD....couldn't stand PAPA G aka Snozburries having one and me none!

Thumbs up year of manufacture

Here you go:
http://www.radix.net/~bbrown/schmidt_rubin.html#m31

The year should also be under the buttplate but sometimes might be different from the action. Do you have the little note with the soldier's name under the plate ?

I guess you must keep your wife happy - she's always buying you guns :right:

Does the serial number indicate yours was one made for private ownership or for Army issue?

Just curios.

And, is there and ownership tag under the stock butt plate.

Mine has one and I've often thought about trying to make contact with the previous Swiss Army member. I guess there are sites that help people locate the person but, so far, haven't actually tried.

Didn't pay any attention to the Army/personal thing...

Nametag under buttstock sez:

DRAG.Pulver Werner
1928/ DRAG.SCHW.10

Whatever the heck that means....

I just ordered one from Aim Surplus. Hope all turns out well! It should get here late next week. Trying out my new C&R.

FYI - Graf & Sons has factory ammo with reloadable brass.

FMJ, it's all about finding the 'holy grail' of guns.

We're not sure just what it is or where it is; we just know we have to keep searching.

And, of course, that means we have to keep buying and buying, LOL.
