| Myth Busters...shooting victim flying backwards
I dont know if any..or how many of you all watch the show myth busters ....I have the digital recorder so usaly run through the recorded shows on my day off...most are kinda silly myths that they put to the test....the other day they had one that cought my intrest....we all see people in movies get shot...end up flying back 5 foot...through windows and doors. Welp Myth busters took a dead pig..suspended it so if it moved it would be free to go back and of course fall down...some police officers were paid to shoot it.....9mm, 45acp,44mag, 223, 308 and even 12 guage slug...no movement...the slug made it go back 1 inch and fall down...no flying...so full auto weapons were used...3 full auto (9mm and 223) shooint at same time...no real movement. SO they took a crash test dummy..put put a bullet proff vest and repeated it....high spped camras showed the bullets makeing the vest bounce but only 12 guage 00 buck knocked it down even then only back an inch or so....no flying. They went on to explain nutions law of action reaction...and that basic physics is that target basicly feels the same energey as the shooter feels in terms of recoil (muzzle breaks and such not calculated...so stright shot..no muzzle break felt recoil)... In any case I found it to be an intersting thing to watch....(I often think in terms of power =Ft. Pounds of energey.....but this kinda points out that stoping power s more along the lines of the hole made...type of bullet ect..not that the target goes flying out of your house and off a clif after u shot it. |

I always thought it was odd but from most of the C.W. battlefield histories and first hand accounts I've read most soldiers hit with .58 Minie balls fell face down. Some even died still standing till somebody came along and touched them. Stopping power is mainly due to shock to the nervous system. A big slow bullet causes more shock than a small fast one.

back on topic "The Big Hit" was a movie where 9mm bullets were throwing people everywhere... Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Film fans might someday recognize 1997 and '98 as the years Hong Kong came to Hollywood. Stars Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, Chow Yun-Fat, Jet Li, and Michelle Yeoh all appeared in major Hollywood projects and directors John Woo, Ronny Yu, and Tsui Hark directed Face/Off, Bride of Chucky, and Knock Off, respectively. Another entry into this new era of entertainment is The Big Hit, directed by Che-Kirk Wong (who also directed Jackie Chan in Crime Story), executive produced by John Woo, and produced by Wesley Snipes. Mark Wahlberg leads this all-American cast in a played-for-laughs macho blowout. Rounding out the testosterone brigade are Lou Diamond Phillips (sprouting a gold-capped tooth and a dirty mouth), Bokeem Woodbine (who, according to this DVD's director audio track, wore extra socks where it counts), Antonio SabĂ*to Jr., and Avery Brooks. Wahlberg plays Melvin Smiley, a nice-guy hit man with an ulcer and a severe insecurity problem. He's short on cash due to the spending habits of his unsuspecting fiancĂ©e Pam (Christina Applegate) and his girlfriend-on-the-sly Chantel (Lela Rochon). He and his crew decide to do a little freelancing and cook up their own heist to make a little mo' money--specifically by kidnapping Keiko (China Chow), the daughter of a Japanese businessman whom they target for ransom. Little do they know her dad is broke and she's the goddaughter of their boss. The Big Hit has action scenes aplenty (one of the stunt coordinators worked on Woo's The Killer and Bullet in the Head) and the same cornball sense of humor as other films in the Hong Kong action genre. Slick pacing and over-the-top humor made this movie a miss with the critics but a fun ride for fans of Hong Kong-styled action. --Shannon Gee |

And where can we get those 'magic bullets' that can hit a target three times, from three different directions? They'd be great for hunting! :right:

:full: :full: :full: :full: :full: For the .45 ACP vs. 9mm x 19 argument, I would say it got settled with the .40 SW rnd, just the big cal punch with the high capacity of the smaller rnds. .40 SW was the gods gift to us the mere mortals so we don't have to argue about .45 ACP vs. 9mm x 19 Oops, did I stated something? :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
