my dad got a 3.5 horse and later a 5 horse Firestone outboard motor from Firestone tire store. also his M-12 Winnie shotgun in NJ before the populace went nutz. they had an installment payment plan.
y'all got memories of the good old days when you could get the tires rotated, and pick up some ammo in the same place???

Sears, back in the day. Used to have an excellent selection of guns, including handguns. Dad bought a few there. At one time, you could even buy a car thru them - a version of the Henry J by Kaiser!
If a town had a Sears store, that was all ya needed besides a supermarket.
yes i sure do! when i was young my grand pa used to go every morning to otasco and drink coffee and talk to the other elders there and hed take me and set me in front of the rifle rack and id drool over all the 22's they had. i guess i was about...between 5 and 8 years old.
Firestone also used to merchandise white refrigerators and other kitchen appliances...all white, of course. If a product was something that the public would buy, they would usually carry a line of it to sell you.
i had forgotten, but in checota (a town bout 20 miles from me) they have a grocery store (cant remember the name) but they have an ace hardware and an outlet for bass pro shop inside it also! i saw it for the first time a few months ago.
about a year and a half ago on the american/canadian border i saw a bait shop/ gun shop... dont remember but i THINK it was also a gas station... decent size store about the size of an average house... had paintball, fishing, hunting, and furniture stuff all in one building
you could buy everything from Sears. I bought an old 16 ft. boat once with a 35 HP Johnson that originally came from sears. Still got the trailer with the Sears id plate.. I think they even built houses at one time. I remember drooling over a brass framed Hawes .22 with stag grips in a Western Auto catalog . Never did get one.
There is a gas station near me, on the highway towards town, that sells some of the oddball ammo that some of the old locals like - .32-20, .222 Rem, and such that Wally World never carries. It's expensive, but the only local source for it! They carry bait & tackle too, since it's on the way to the big lake for many fishermen.
Down south of town, in Woodville, there is an Ace Hardware that still sells ammo - but no guns.
Location: NRAJOEVILLE...A crazy, happy little place.

That and I used to go with my mom and she'd cash in her S&H stamps and get nice stuff for the house. If you saved enough, you could even get a brand spanking new Ford Falcon...
