Mini-14 GB retrofit?

Saw a fellow on another forum selling his Mini-14 to get a GB model. I started thinking, why not just retrofit the one he has? While I'm not a huge fan of the Mini, it has appealed to me for a freakish conversion or two, and somehow this idea popped into my head. I was thinking in terms of installing a gas block front site, bayonet lug, and threading for an AR-15 flash hider, possibly even using the FH to reach legal length while permanently attached.

Sound like a winning idea? Think it's bong inspired?

Got a slick looking FH from Cheaper than Dirt. I see the prices have dropped a good bit on their FHs with bayonet lug, too. Their FH pins on with the ft. sight pin. Where can you buy a Govt. bbl.? Will Ruger sell them to anyone or is it supposed to be "L.E. only"? And the WOOD folding stock?

I just had some similar things done to mine. We cut the barrel down a few inches, moved the sight back on the barrel, added a Wilson brake, Ultimak rail, Burris low-rise mount, and Aimpoint. The thing shoots NICE! Not exactly a GB, but it works for me. . . .

I'm not sure about San Diego, but there is one sitting on the shelf here in Modesto. Call Dave at Sierra Sports at 209-544-1911. I don't know if you want to take a drive, but there is one in stock here. Dave will also ship to your FFL if you wish.

Being CA legal, it should be able to be brought in by any FFL. Just have them order it for you from the lowest priced distributor. You can even probably buy via Gunbroker or Auctionarms, just factor in that you will pay your dealer a fee so find out what it is before comparing his retail prices online ones. Sometimes it's best just to have it ordered through the usual routes.

Anyone know why my posts with pictures don't show up here? I've tried one in this forum and one in the Glock forum, and they are still not posted on the board. Is it a newbie-monitor thing?
