of course not. despicable an act as flag desecration is, its protected by 1st Amendment. usually fines and laws against it can only be enforced when said act is committed on public property, when said act is done in a way to cause possible danger to others e.g. flag burning.

i dont see how freedom of speech can protect a flag burner. voicing an opinion and demonstrating an opinion(flag burning) are not the same thing. at least thats the way i see it, but it is your right to disagree with me. :cheer:

Yeah, that's a good way of thinking.

Well, maybe it's not a crime...but, it should be.....at the very least, it shows me that the person who would do this is totally without class.

In a free society where it often seems nothing is sacred, many feel that one thing at least should be: the American flag. For most Americans, no symbol is more charged with emotion, and incidents of its abuse have led many to declare that freedom of expression has its limits.
When Gregory Lee Johnson burned a flag as part of a political protest, he was convicted for flag desecration under Texas law, but the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed the conviction on First Amendment grounds and the Supreme Court confirmed that physically damaging the flag constituted symbolic--and protected--speech
Too many laws now. I think propper protocall for this would be for society to turn the other cheek when the flag burner gets the crap beat out of him. BTW, Rights Smites. 50 or 60 years ago with a zillion less laws and the same civil rights, this is how it would have been done.
Desicrate a flag in fron of me & I'll take my chances.
There was a pic several years ago that I loved. I think it was an Iraqi during a demonstration that poured gas on an American flag and set it on fire and himself too. He was covered in flames. Poetic justice. :right:

Yes, it should be a punishable offense. Voicing an opinion is a totally different thing from desecrating one's national flag.
If it's okay to burn the flag, then it should be okay to deck the stupid SOB that did it. Just voicing my opinion.
I understand all y'alls fellings about flag-burning. It seems to me though that the crazy burner has or believieves that he has a legitimate reason to do it. I don't condone it, but I can try to understand it.
The thing that burns me up, however, is the total lack of respect towards this symbol by supposedly patriotic Americans. I have seen the raggedest, nastiest American flags flying (at night without illumination on it, too) at private residences. I'm sorry, but THIS I find unacceptable. If you are going to fly a flag, observe the protocols regarding the respect due to the flag.
