Question Anyone carry mase or other "non-lethal" alternative to side arm?

I was just reading some misc. articles online, one that suggested carrying a non-lethal alternative to a firearm. Does anyone do this? It sounds like a good practice to get into - any thoughts?

Maybe I could squeeze it somewhere on the belt between the cell phone, car keys, sidearm, Leatherman......

Nope. if they're worth macing they're worth shooting. It's more permanent that way. Don't have to worry about looking over your shoulder cuz some nut you maced is looking for revenge.

I don't but I give a new key ring can of pepper spray to my 70 year old mother every Christmas - she carries it religiously.

28% of the population is not affected by mace and second of all why add another issue in for the courts to attack you -- last but not least most of the drug users that would be involved in a crime are not affected.

shawn dont know about tn cc rules but nc cc rules state that you must attempt to use the least lethal method possible. voice , hands, chemical, blunt object then if you must leathal force.

check out the TN laws -- we are not required to carry anything other than our permit and gun -- obvioulsy you try to diffuse but if it comes to an armed encounter voice is not going to stop them and hands and blunt opbjects are way too close you'll end up dead first ask any cop

Wink

I carried a key-ring unit once. Really needed it once. It failed - lost it's propellent force.
Nowadays, I find a gun or knife much more reliable. Haven't had to use either yet. But it won't puke stinky yellow crap on my hand either.

I thought about buying a taser but didn't..after all it wouldn't be all that effective on dogs...I'm more concerned about dogs than two legged predators...and two legged predators tend to be more dangerous than dogs..after all two legged predators may be armed with more than 6 rounds of snub .38

uggg - nasty

In our kommie state carry permits are pretty hard to get in most areas - I always carry mace (this ones supposed to be stronger than "usual" but I haven't had to try it out thankfully) and a folder. Of course, home defense is a different situation and I keep enough stuff loaded to handle a zombie mob

huh?

whaddaya crazy? .38sp is the most "non-lethal" thing I carry. thats why god made carry permits!

I remember a friend who is a bail bounty hunter tell me a story. They went after this guy for jumping bail, who was sitting in a pick-up. they walked up and hit the guy in the belly with a high voltage tazer gun....the guy (a 450+ lbs 6'4 black individule) looked him in the eye and calmly said: "don't do that again" so he hit the guy in the face with some mace, and the guy climbed out of his pickup and promptly started beating the crap out of him and his partner...until his partner hit the guy over the head SEVERAL time with his 1911, to finally bring him down.

mace? I dont think so..... :smash:

Look around you as most anything can be used as a weapon.

Pens and pencils are great for stabbing while they are prone to breaking when abstructed by bone; just remember to aim for soft tissue.

Keys placed between the knuckles;

A beltwith a large buckle;

credit cards are good for slicing;

CD's break in half and slice with them;

etc....

...heh... non-lethal. When I finally get a CCW, I'm going to get one for a .22 pistol with a laser as well as something bigger. That's about as non-lethal as I'll ever need. If the laser or the pistol doesn't scare the crap out of someone, a double-tap to the chest then a kick to the face could easily take them down. If I really don't want to kill the person, I'd just need to shoot one of their legs then shoot out their kneecaps - I could just say "Sorry, I missed the chest so I kept shooting". They wouldn't be running anywhere, that's for sure.

Now, in a faceoff against an armed attacker, forget a .22 as anything but secondary. I think I'm gonna go pick myself up a Glock 29 when the time comes - 10MM Auto, 10+1 mag cap, tiny enough so no one will see it in my waistband... A 10mm is more powerful than a .45, isn't it? Sure, ammo is expensive, but if I only put 1,000 rounds through the gun on the range and still carry it, I'd be able to kill someone just as easily if I practice the rest with my .22 pistol.

What the stupid people who want everyone to use non-lethal weapons don't realize is that if someone wants to kill you, they'll kill you. I'd choose a metal pen over a stun gun, thanks, unless I was just trying to torture someone. o_O

Man who shoots for legs usually misses and gets himself shot in the chest.

If you ever gotta pull it out, do it with full intentions of putting 3 or 4 in the main body (chest) or don't pull it out at all.....words to live by.

Yup. Me thinks phrogg has been watching too many movies. Hopefully, when he becomes and adult, he will think differently.
