Do I understand you to be saying you don't like the idea of our rights being slowly taken away?

I'm just glad its not my house they are stealing (yet)...as I would be found sitting on my front porch with my 7mm mag when the bulldozers pulled up.....and they would have take me away in a box.

I remember this crap. the city wanted to annex 28 square miles for tax revenue. There was this one neighborhood that was sorta wealthy (well for Fayetteville anyway) so they got together hired a lawyer and fought the annexation saying they didn't meet the 100 people per mile square requirement (something like that) so the city dropped them and them only.

The whole underlying theme was money. But in the city's defense Urbal sprawl has gone unchecked all to do with poor planning which is also the government's fault.

James what else has happened with this case since I left.

I understand the need to annex as the outskirts develop so should the city move but the problem I have with Fayetteville (as I am sure happens everywhere else) they annex you and then send you as bill for 5-7 thousand dollars to pay for the annexation.

That should be considered a cost of doing business. Your regular tsaxes should include that.

i gotta disagree with you spo. if the people on the outskirts request to be apart of the city thats one thing. however to force people is a totally differnt thing. imagine your property tax doubling due to a forced annexation.

I don't think we need judges like the ones we have now. did you notice how fast this issue disappeared from the media?

Now there ya go! Great Point, we need conservative judges all right, but we also need every conservative in America to vote every time, no excuses, go vote.....the conservatives would win every election, hands down.

As you may recall, I'm rabidly conservative. But, what passes for conservative, as of late, is not what I had in mind. I think there are many who are just as unhappy with the way things have turned out as I am. What's worse is the clear, and certain, knowlage that things are gona get worse, much worse, as this madman continues his holy war against our bill of rights. Many don't agree with me. Fine, no problem. But, there are plenty who do. We won by narrow margins both times. Now that little hitler has urinated on his two main support groups (religious right and gun owners), both of which, I'll remind you, are huge supporters of cival liberties, and don't take kindly to lies and disrespect, no matter what the reason. Who are we going to get to stand up in thier place? Oh yeah, I forgot, the criminals from south-O-the border! I sure hope those who plan to continue the rape of the bill of right are not stupid enough to think that those criminals will vote for them....remember, they are criminals, they can't vote! that is unless the repubs give them all voter cards, as it looks like they want to do. but, even then, those criminals will probably vote for dems, that's what they do in kalifornica! I think that many (repubs) will do as I guess i'll do next election. No, not vote for a democrapper. but, niether can I support a government that seeks to enslave it's citizens as this current one has. To say I'm disappointed with bush would be the under statment of a life time.

Yes, I am really getting annoyed! I wish there was something we could do. But, what? I think the repubs just don't care about us. Maybe they think they can do without our votes next time.

This latest supreme court ruling is definitely a much bigger step backward for those of us who believe in individual rights of real estate ownership. As has been pointed out so well by others on this thread, eminent domain has been around for many years. But...it had been used primarily for taking land for roads, public buildings and things of that sort. Enough citizens supported that type of use that it was was tolerated as an acceptable practice by probably a majority of voting individuals. But...definitely there were situations when the eminent domain was rammed down our throats even then.

So when this new ruling was declared by a 5-4 vote, it declared that it was legal for all government levels to declare an area blighted, etc., and proceed to condemn it and sell it for whatever assesors declared was a fair price, regardless if the owner was willing to sell, including to raise tax revenue.

Therefore, all private real estate is vunerable to the whims of government officials who want to take any piece of land by going through the eminent domain process and sell it to another private owner who they believe will bring in more tax revenue for the government.

Yes, this is one big step backward for individual rights! As I see it, our best hope is for citizens to rebel and let politicians know at all level of government that they will not stand for this kind of property theft, in the name of more tax revenue to operate the government. We need to make politicians declare their stand on this issue and if it's not in our interests they should be voted out of office. And...only new candidates should be elected who declare their intentions to not steal private citizens property in the name of new tax revenue which they claim is needed to build even bigger cities and city services, etc. It's a vicious circle and never ending situation.

So...it's up to us individuals to use our vote to get this eminent domain problem straightened out. We can only hope that president Bush will nominate a conservitive if/when he gets a chance to replace ultra liberal Justice Renquist.

Gunnie Ed...what's to laugh about in this situation? This supreme court ruling makes me more than a little angry.

Sorry...my sense of humor is at a low level this afternoon. I've been working outside all day and this subject sort of caused me to have a near "brownout."
