Happy holidays... you're fired.

Got a call at the gunshop this morning. My night-shift dollar job is no more. Really brightened my day to hear a chipper little secretary tell me "well due to financial restraints the company has no alternative but to lay off several people." I says "Huh? You mean I'm fired?" She says, "Not at all, Sir. You have been laid off." I says "So, I still work there?" She says, "No, sir. I'm sorry." I says "So, I've been fired then?", she says "I'm afraid so." I says, "Happy holidays." She says "you too, sir. I'm really sorry."

Ever had the feeling that somebody had just opened an umbrella in your arse? Bass-turds in management couldn't even scrape the nuts together to call me theirselves. Bass-turds.

Talking

Yep, and the manager can't even scrape up the cojones to do it himself. Has to get the little lady in the front office to do his light work for him.

I had that happen once, when I worked with U-haul. I was their small-engine/rental equipment guy, had rebuilt the shop area and set it up for more efficiency. They loved it.

Then the summer ended, and rentals fell off. Glad I did get canned later - the idiots running things were dishonest, and got caught with their hands in the company's cookie jar. They all got canned. I laughed myself silly when I heard.

Thing that gets me is in the manufacturing plant that I worked, we had a staff meeting last week where we were assured that there would be no lay-offs by the big guy. The rumours have been flying about for a few weeks. Seems they were not rumours.

Anyway, I am starting a new job on tuesday (a temp job at $ 14.85/hour) but that will only last for 2 weeks. I have applied for a position at Barrett Arms. Hope I get it.

Yeah never believe anything they tell you when there are hard times. I work in consulting and most of the managers do nothing but lie. I worked for 2 guys that I really trusted; they were real honest about the work situation.

Our company controller will come get the fired individual and escort him/her to shipping & recieving to pick out a box. I keep my box in my cubicle for easy access 1/2 packed to avoid the walk of shame. Not if, but when.

Paydays that land on friday are especially notorious.

Naow worries miss. Thangs is not so bad. Let's see, this week from bad to worse...

1) The wife puts the caibash on any more rifle purchases,
2) My 15-year old daughter discovers the joys of cybersex (ask me how I know)
3) Fired from work
4) Because of "3" no longer able to get loan from bank to buy a house.

Whoever escorted me to shipping would find himself picking out a box. Picking it out of his arse. I'm feeling the teeniest spot of hostility towards certain members of the community right now.

Thanx y'all. At least G&G is still there. All this bad luck may be a blessing in disguise because,

1) The wife, I can work with, given time,
2) My daughter remains unfertilised and stays a virgin (I hope)
3) I might go to work for Ronnie Barrett
4) Get the mortgage later.

Here in State employment, when ya get the 'notice', you get the bum's rush out the front door, escorted by security - do not return to office, hope your buddies get all your things from the desk.

They have a bad habit of doing this at the worst of times - say a week before Christmas!

Last time I got fired, it was because I got crunched in a company vehicle, and the manager said my drug test came back positive for alcohol. Pretty strange, since I hadn't had a drink for days. I called the doctor's office, and they told me they couldn't discuss the test results with me because they were confidential. I blew over to his office and explained that since I had been fired because of those "confidential" results I really thought they should share them with me. When the doctor came out to keep his receptionist from being dismembered in front of his patients, I asked him what exactly in the results had indicated alcohol. His answer? Nothing...my idiot manager had apparently siezed upon some number indicating the parts per million of alcohol-related compounds in my system (which were natural and normal), and assumed it meant blood-alcohol percentage, even though the results line indicated negative.

I extracted an official apology in writing, got myself re-hired, and then told them to shove their job. It was fairly obvious that by proving management wrong I had painted a bullseye on my own back, and I didn't want to hang around for the fatal shot, whenever and from wherever it came. Since I now make almost three times what they were paying me, I'd say they did me a favor in the long run, even though times were hard for a while.
