| One of the joys of growing older
One of the joys of growing older is getting to do adult stuff with people you have known since they were small. In the next day or so, I'm going to take D.J. to the range with me, and punch a BUNCH of holes in paper. I taught him in Sunday school when he was 8 years old, and had the pleasure of seeing him grow up. He and my oldest son were good buddies, played high school football together, in addition to being in the same youth group at church. D.J. is now a United States Marine, and has just come home after 7 months in Afghanistan. He'll be here for about 10 more days, then head to Hawaii for seven months, then go to Iraq for a year. I'm so proud of that boy.... OOPS! EXCUSE ME! I'm so proud of that MAN! I guess that even those of us who served in the one TRUE branch of the military (of course I refer to the United States ARMY!!!) are permitted to give honor & respect to jarheads, especially those we have known and loved for 15 years.

I think we should give thanks to all our "kids" in uniform and serving in Iraq no matter what uniform they wear. I've got a newly wed niece who is living in Japan all by her lonesome while her new hubby is serving a seven month stint in Iraq (Air Force)
