I am a Permanent resident in the USA, living in Tennessee and up until a week or so ago I was ineligible to obtain a handgun carry permit. This law, that previously stated that only citizens of the US were eligible, has now been modified to include Permanent Residents. I will probably do the qualification course within the next few weeks.

I am really happy about this, because I thought that I would have to wait another 2-and-a-little-bit years until I an a Citizen of this great land. This week-end I shall be celebrating with some gunfire

Yep, here in sunny Florida, a permanent resident can own a gun too. I have several British friends who have gotten into the shooting sports.
One friend here at work married an American girl, got his citizenship a few years back. He was very happy to be able to vote (a good conservative Republican, too!), became an NRA life-member and took the hunter safety course with his two older sons.
Another was in the British Army, and is great to talk to about the weapons and equipment used by the Brits recently.
