Hammer not dropping properly

Hi,

Working on my Sistema and having trouble with the hammer not hitting the firing pin when I pull the trigger. The hammer drops but stops short of the firing pin. I have noticed that if i hold the grip safety really tight that sometimes it will work properly.

I have taken the gun totally apart and cleaned and lubed everything. Could the problem be with the sear spring or the disconnector and sear? Could something else be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Since it works sometimes when you hold the grip safety really tight seems to me that therein the problem lies. If ya can't figure it out and get really disgusted with it ya can send it to me and I'll properly dispose of it for ya. :right:

Try removing and reseating the flat spring in the rear of the grip. I had one once that didn't seat right, and caused similar problems. Reseated it, and it worked fine! Might also try a new spring - any 1911 parts vendor has them. The old one may be worn and not providing proper tension.
