Lafave Rejects Plea Deal, Date Set For Trial

TAMPA - A prosecutor and defense attorney stood in court on Monday to say they could not come to a pre-trial deal in the case of Debra Lafave, the Greco Middle School teacher accused of having sex with her 14-year-old student.

``Negotiations have broken off and now it's going to trial,'' defense attorney John Fitzgibbons said after the hearing. ``It's time to tee it up.''


Judge Wayne Timmerman set a trial date for Dec. 5. The trial is expected to last about two weeks.

If convicted, Lafave, 24, could face up to 15 years in prison on each of two charges of lewd and lascivious battery.

Fitzgibbons said the prosecution's plea deal involved ``significant prison time'' and he found that unacceptable.

``To place Debbie into a Florida state women's penitentiary, to place an attractive young woman in that kind of !!!! hole, is like putting a piece of raw meat in with the lions,'' Fitzgibbons said.

Assistant State Attorney Mike Sinacore said his office worked with the family of the victim to determine what would and what would not be offered in the plea deal.

Neither side would provide specifics on what the offer included.

According to court records, witnesses told investigators that Lafave's relationship with her teenage student grew flirtatious as the 2003-2004 school year wound down. That summer, they kept in contact.

Police say Lafave had sex with the student in her Riverview townhouse and again in the portable classroom where she taught English.

During a trip to Ocala, the teen's aunt saw the pair and called his mother. He leveled with his mother and she called police. Lafave was arrested on June 21, 2004, after several phone calls between her and the teen were monitored.

She faces similar charges in Ocala.

the simple fact is, he could have conciousley turned her away, and she'd probably accept the rejection like a mature adult. but he didn't turn her down, that makes him as much at fault as the teacher.

This is an exellent example of the true nature of the rather recient trend to demonize a sex crime with a child.
It used to be that the worst thing a person can do is murder someone.
Now the worst thing is to molest a child, EXCEPT when its a Woman and a boy.

Therefore it becomes appearent that the true motivation for this shift is to hate men.
hate men and anything sexual a man wants.
It is femminism plain and simple.
Why is it that Now, Sex offenders have to register for the rest of their lives?
Murderers dont have to, bank robbers dont have to, why sex offenders?
Why is it that sexual misconduct (by a man especially) is now so serious that the offender now is required to have life long registration.

What changed?

We are cheering on the young man that got to nail this incredibly, strikingly attractive woman, yet if it where a man and a girl, everyone would be wanting to shoot the man.

Dennis has a very valid point here. We dont expect 14 yr olds to be able to make REAL decisions ie: cant vote cant drive legally. I dunno what to think, I left school and started work at 14. Is it okay for a 14 yr old boy to nail some woman 24? probably.. is it okay for some 24 yr old woman to pray on a 14 yr old boy? probably not. Beats me, prolly the worst thing they did was get caught. I dont honestly know where I stand on this. First reaction is: I dont really think its right. I cant say why really...

Dennis makes a very valid point.

it shouldn't carry the moral and legal stigma that it does. it shouldn't be encoruaged, but as long as both consent, and noone is maimed, then i don't really see it as any of my buisiness. so long as the younger one is developed enough(mentally and physically) to deal with that sort of relationship.

Obviously this wasn't a teacherly thing to do.If she must be punished,don't let her teach,possibly probation,community service,but not prison.
Men and women are different(thank goodness) and they should be treated differently in some cases.
Dam judges have latitude and may treat her worse than a child torturer or murderer,judgeing by the news lately! :lucky:

I disagree with most of the post....ok fine shes female and the BOY probly had the time of his life..did not end up with the emotional scareing that a girl would have if a MALE teacher was porking her brains out....BUT all fantasys aside.. ITS STILL FLAT OUT WRONG all stop period no excuse for ANY Adult to be haveing sex with CHILDREN....do 15yr olds have sex..yes probly more often then us old guys on this board....but come on if she was ugly would we say hang her...but shes pretty so its ok......what if SHE was licking YOUR DAUGHTER instad of a boy???? Adults should NOT have sex with children...male on male..male on female ..female on male or female on female....MORE to the point as a TEACHER she is trusted with children...she voilated this trust....she was the lion and the CHILDREN were the fresh meat. I think she should be get the same sentence as if a male teacher was porking a female or male student....no diffrence..no excuese. you know, that's right. i forgot entirely about being 14, despite the fact it was only six years ago.

sixteen is not childhood, fourteen kinda is, of course, the hormones are still going at that age. and we all know about those !!!!ed hormones.
