It's great to see an older thread like this brought back to live again amongst readers...
...and we again celebrate the marvels of .44mag rifles.

If condition of rifle is good...
...that seems to be a reasonable price.
Not sure about the year identification though...

| Well,
it will give you more than a revolver in terms of performance and accuracy.
So, it will be a good deal for you.
I'm not so hot on the .44 mag but I do realize others love it.

Can you shoot the 44 specials in a 44Mag? | In the lever rifles yes. But there is very little reason to do so except for lighter loads for those that do not reload. Reloaders can load down the 44Mag cartridge for plinking loads. Just be sure to check the load data for your powder. Some Hogdon and Winchester ball powders can not be reduced in load.
If you do shoot 44 Spcl, or 38 Spcl in a 357, be sure to clean the chamber well. Otherwise a powder ring forms at the end of the brass and can make the magnum brass hard to chamber.
BTW, I Love my Marlin 1894 44Mag.

Mmmmm, .44 magnum joy.........it's a great shooter, but doesn't really like the shoulders on LSWC bullets, prefers round noses.

My favorite all around rifle, is the .44 mag.
I own Winchesters, Marlins & Ruger.
Always looking to buy another.
As I think they are the perfect truck gun.
And, I am a big fan of lever actions.
It is great to be able to carry the same cartridge, for both pistol & rifle.
They are a little light, for Alaska big game with claws & teeth!
But I did have take a grizzly's down with them, in both 1990 & 1992.(2-3 shots)
I normally use my 450's or 45-70's.
For the mean critters.

44. Mag is a LOT of fun, makes a great SASS Cowboy shooter too, when loaded with .44 Specials
It'll drop a hog real nice at 50 yards

I like my combo of Ruger Redhawk and Ruger 77/44, both in .44 Magnum. The Double Action revolver coupled with the Bolt action rifle, is a very good hunting pair for deer or black bear. The 77/44 is much lighter than the Marlin 1894 or the Puma 92 lever rifles. It also accomodates a scope much better.
I used to own the Ruger Vaqueros and Marlin 1894s in stainless steel, for Cowboy Action Shooting, but I sold them all. I find the lighter rifle and the double action revolver to be more suitable for my outdoor activities than the old cowboy pair.
Since I reload .44 Magnum, I can shoot them as much as I want.

My Marlin 1894 w/octagonal barrel has taken all of my deer for the last several years, using Winchester White box 240gr soft points. 80 yards, 110 yards, 130 yards, and 160 yards.

That's a shot to be proud of! Wonder how much drop that round has at that range.

| Marlin 1894, 44Mag/44 Special
Mine is quite accurate & up to about 200 yards, or a little further, the 44 Mag is deadly accurate (if you are?). It also shoots 44 Special but If you are going to shoot 44 Mags, you should clean the breech (at least) so the 44 Mag doesn't "jam" in the breech. I reload with Black Dawg, 205gr lead & cost is about .24 per round, including powder. You can load "up" with the rifle, much more than with the pistol. With reasonable loads, the "recoil" isn't too bad, unless you shoot a whole lot more than I do. (at one time)

C44A 44 Rem. Mag 5.2 8.4 0 -35.6 -106.0 -217. | Where did you get these numbers? What gun, barrel length, powder. load and bullet are you using? My Marlin 1894, 20" barrel, 44 mag holds to target, with less than 12" drop at 200 yards. My gun is "zeroed" at 100 yards, with a Leopold scope. At 200 yards, I deliberately aim 12" high, & I am right on target. I am using Black Dawg 205gr, with 5.8gr Clays (powder) "Easy" recoil is important to me, so I find this load quite comfortable. (With heavier bullets, recoil becomes "too much" for me, makes me want to go shoot my 22 rifle instead) I can't enjoy the 44 Mag, unless my shoulder is comfortable. In the same gun, I use the same bullets for 44 special & use 5.4gr Hogdon HP38. They are a Hoot to shoot!

I reamed my Handi .44 Mag to .445 Super and it is shooting both .44 Mag Hornady LeverEvolutions and 240 gr. .445 Super Mags by Custom Cartridge, 240 gr. LRNFPs extremely well. This rifle also shoots .44 Special and .44 Russian. I have a .357 mag Handi, reamed to Maximum and it shoots all the .38s, mags and maxis well. I have not encountered any end of chamber fouling with any of them. In my opinion, the .445 Super Mag and the .357 Maximum are two "Must Haves".
I almost forgot to add, my Handi .45LC is about to be reamed to .454 for the same advantages.
The next in line will probably be a Handi .500 S&W.....I think I'll leave that one alone!!

Love the .445 Super Mag!! I have it in a 14" Thompson Contender, killed my first deer , a 6 point buck at about 80-90 yrds with a shot to the femoral artery. I was trying for a spine shot and missed a bit and completly blew up its left ham. I wonder how close is the .445 Super Mag is to the .454 Cusull?
