A little disappointed with the NRA thus far

Not wanting to stir you up any further, just wanted to point out that, if your goal is a career in politics, you are going to have to work out a way to respond in a positive way, even to the snide knuckleheads of the world, since that's going to be about 50% of the folks whose votes you are going to be begging for. Of course, going into full attack mode at the slightest, gently humorous, comment should get you back into the private sector pretty quick. Sorry if calling you "pal" offended you, pal. Won't do it again, pal. So, so, sorry

Calm down Troy. Call GOA or grassroots NC(?) and explain your situation to them and see if they can help in any way. If they can yank your membership to the NRA and when they call tell them why. The only thing those people understand is $$$$$$$$$$


I can really see why they don't give money out in local races; but they could help in some way by send a memo out to all members in the area; endorsing you etc....

Reality check time. There is a huge difference between an internet message board and politics. If you are as knowedgeable on the topic as you say, you would know that. That is common sense.

I was not in full attack mode, not even close. Actually, it seems that you were and are. There has not yet been anything of "the slightest, gently humorous, comment" type that was stated yet. What was stated was an outright insult in the middle of a discussion, to which I responded. If you understood politics, you would be able to see that. You obviously ignored most of what I wrote in my last few posts.

No, the term "pal" didn't offend me. It was, however, rather condescending and presumptuous of you to use it. And again. Bite me.

I just don't think they have the resources to help you in your campaign..nor would very many members think it is part of their job to help you get elected

Sure they have the resources. They have the resources to send me a fundraising letter for a local youth program and ask me to buy a raffle ticket, buy a dinner, and attend an auction, etc. That much has already been dispelled.

As for the other...same thing as the last comment. I don't necessarily think that it is part of my job in life for some youth program that I won't be participating in nor have any family participating in it. What's the difference? There is none. It is not my job to help some congressman in Rhode Island get elected, either, but the NRA will ask me for cash. Same thing.

LD it does no good for me to campaign for him in High Point when he lives 2 hrs away. DUH! You're quote misses the point.

What I can do is support organizations that help people who support our ideas and morals with resources in which they can use to their advantage to get elected.

He is right; if the nra can send out donation cards then they surely can send out a list to local members saying Troy supports your rights, please support him. They could have referred him to the local Rep that may have been able to help him devise a strategy. They could have done MORE than they did. If he was looking for a handout, and I don't know that he was, then I can surely understand their position.

Could be just that the NRA folks have priorities to adhere to, concentrating effort on state or national issues where the economies of scale make them more effective than expending the same effort and expense on a strictly local action. I'm sure they could make local membership lists available, if proper credentials are presented. NRA headquarters is right near me, so I could have likely called over to chat with the folks (some are pals of mine)there on somebody's behalf, but of course there's kind of a net negative motivation for me to do that, now. Maybe the NRA guys got the same vibe, and beat a fast retreat?
