So, we're supposed to sit on our butts and not go to work till they bring prices down?

We could all ride bicycles. It'd help solve the health crisis and the energy crisis all in one shot.

Or we can make the roads more motorcycle friendly. Even big cruisers get 40+mpg.

I live in the boonies. I'm not riding a bicycle 15 miles to go to town. I'd love to have another Harley but that's not happening anytime soon. What about 18 wheelers? They use more fuel in a day than any two normal families use in a week.

Yeah, but they're pretty necessary to distribute goods in a country as spread out as this one. If we had been more careful and laid it all out on a grid, rail might be a more efficient way.

You'd be suprised how refreshing a brisk 45min ride can be. It gets your day going right. Its especially good if your employer encourages it by adjusting the workday and provides shower/change facilities at the office. Brings down health insurance costs for the company too.

Reb: A good buisness to be in these days is hotshotting oilfield equipment. All you really need is a 1 ton and a flatbed trailer. Its especially big business in texas, oklahoma, and wyoming with the huge oilfield demand. Not to mention wyoming and oklahoma have some of the cheapest fuel around. All you really need to do is get hooked up with an outfit that needs more drivers, and they all do. Getting out on your own is difficult because its tough getting on peoples' vendor lists.

Just a thought...wasn't sure if you're looking for another driving job. I just know those guys are doing well right now.

May have to find another job. I was pulling sea going containers out of New Orleans. We have a yard in Mobile I may can haul out of but the phones aren't working there yet. Not really wanting anything that keeps me out. My mom turns 79 tomorrow and lives alone. I want to be able to get to her if she needs something or something happens, not halfway across the country.

I'm getting a turbo for my sports car. I swear its only for the gas mileage improvement.

The turbo will in fact more than double the horsepower of my car. A pleasant side effect though is that turbos increase the efficiency of a motor. So in theory , if you drove the same speed and accelerated at the same rate as before, you get a mileage gain. Most people have a hard time controlling themselves though. It does usually show up on the highway since that is often cruise control driving.

I saw a guy beside me at pumps buy 5 bucks worth last week, I was surprised he didnt just dab it behind his ears, at $1.24 a litre, it wouldnt have been a lot of fuel. Its looking to go up to 1.30 or 1.40 a litre soon, we feeling the effects of ` Katrina` all the way over here....

Yeah, I've seen people here buy a dollar or two and put it in old big cars like LD's caddy. Don't know how far they think it's going to take them.

Best price I saw all weekend was $3.15 accross PA.

However, keeping my speed at 60mph and under kept my fuel economy at roughly 42mpg on the highway. And I have a midsize car. No, it's not a hybrid.

Optimum speeds and best fuel economy will vary by car.
