I saw 2 Ruger security six`s offered for sale at probably the best gunshop I have access to. Contestant # 1 was a stainless 6 inch in VGC for the princely sum of $290 AUD, quite reasonable. Contestant # 2 was a blued 4 inch in as new condition priced at TWO THOUSAND AND TWO HUNDRED AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS :jaw: Why? well, it was was former Queensland state police commisioner Terry Lewis`issue gun. Poor old Terry was jailed a few years back for Corruption and also lost his knighthood ( for a time he had the prefix `sir` in his title, ie: Sir Terry Lewis ) Which means absolutely J.S. to Americans, but you have to agree 2.2 grand is red hot for a Security six. Whats`yours worth Ox??
: Big dog : right above Ex commissioner Terry`s gun was an Artillery luger for 1495.. Actually thats a bit hot too from what I have seen, still I `d rather that than dont drop the soap terry`s issue gun. They got a Lara Croft tomb raider pistol for $1650, for the man who has everything...Elswhere I saw a couple un isssued SKS packed in grease brand new for $690 ( yawn )
Before the semi auto ban, and right up to it actually, you could buy a chinese pos SKS and 500 rounds for under 200 bucks. Dont forget an SKS is a Catagory `D` firearm here now, you need a special collectors licence to own one of the useless peices of crap. I hated them, every wanker with swiss cheese for brains bought one when they were selling them by the pound virtually. Lots of road signs got air conditioned with them by drunken idiots and little else.
I remember when you could buy AK's like that and SK's were priced like Mosins are now and you could go to any gun show and buy a Mosin for 10 bucks. I wouldn't mind having an AK just to say I had one. Never cared for SK's and Mosins are pure crap. I know that's gonna tick a lot of people off..... Oh well.
That's okay Rebel727, I despise Weatherbys. It all depends on your field of interest.
But those prices in Aus are really over the top, compared to what we pay.
Johnny_Revolver...you asked what I paid for my Security Six S.S, 4". $375 hard cash but it was as near to being new as possible. Had less than one box of cartridges fired through it and had a new grip. Some will say I paid about a hundred too much but I'm real happy with the gun. As I recall, it's mfg date was 1985.

Didn't mean to sound so pissy. Wasn't in a good mood. I don't like Weatherby's either. Aussies do have it rough in more ways than one.
Gotta understand that semi auto is banned, well, sorta banned you `can` own them but for the average joker its hardly worth it. I might point out that the SKS`s ( I know these rifles have their fans here ) were chinese knock off - just tip the load of them over there, mate! junkers. So, if you see semi auto rifles ( military style anyway ) here, they are pretty swanky. Armalite 308`s for 3 grand and such. The SKS was, due to the round it fired, next to useless on pigs. Guys thought they`d be great when pigs were encountered in mobs. On feral goats the SKS was probably okay, your goat not being as resilient to gunfire as your pig is. Its an Australian opinion really, most people here have traditionally scorned semi auto ( not all, but most ) ex military rifles due to I feel the limited range we were exposed to. M1 carbines are fun for a while but limited in how they lend themselves to hunting. We sporterised .303 SMLE`s up to the middle of last century with terrific results, so it`s easy to see how the bolt action is usually the gun of choice here and has been all the way through. I didnt like SKS`s because the ones we were offered for sale were ugly million rounds fired chunks of crap, and every other chuckling dickhead and his step brother bought one. It comes down to the style of hunting shooting we mostly do. I never felt comfortable with a semi auto rifle beside me even in the hands of someone I knew to be experienced, I felt I had to be aware of their rifles safe condition as well as my own, which you sorta should be anyway but not to the extent that it takes your mind off spotting game! I will admit that I am a hunting rifle fool, blued steel and walnut, fancy checkering = drool. Pressed steel and plywood just doesnt get my pulse racing and I realise I should probably keep that opinion to myself. I thought about what I had said about the SKS and expected a few retorts here.
