Browning Buckmark Rear sight removal???

Hey all,

I'm trying to put on a williams rear fire sight (front went on no problems, easy, obvious how to do it). Rear is giving me a bit more trouble. I have the sight base off, then I pulled the adjust screw on the top, and then I'm stuck. theres a pin at the front of the sight that appears to be involved, (hinge point for the sight) - do I pop that out? any good way to do such?

Thanks all..

I had that same problem/puzzle to figure out. I put a Hi-Viz front sight on my Buckmark. The post does come off. Originally, I wanted to transfer the Hi-Viz to my MKII Ruger, but the post stayed in the Hi-Viz sight. Like a bonehead, I forgot that the post was part of the Buckmark and figured that the sight just wouldn't go onto a Ruger as advertised. I figured it out in short order. Keep the post. The front came out easy enough, but I don't know about the rear.

I have not changed out the rear sight yet, but I would assume that it is similar to the front. I did remove the entire rear sight assembly to put on a Weaver mount rail for a red dot scope, however. I really didn't like the way it mounted. The screws had to be swapped for it to mount properly. I went back to factory spec on the rear but have kept the Hi-Viz on the front.

By the way, which model of Buckmark do you have? I've got a Camper model.

Yeah - Camper here too - exactly the same gun as on your blog. Basically now until I figure out the rear sight its in the same configuration as yours with the williams up front, browning factory in the rear. I just cant figure out how that sight portion comes off the sight base.

Thanks...

I have a Camper also and looking at mine and the schematic on the Browning site

Camper Schematic (page 91)

it appears that the sight base pin is all that holds the sight in the rail. A small punch should work to remove it.

Are you putting the Williams on the original plastic rail for the Camper or did you switch to the metal rail that comes with the Standard?

My plastic rail broke yesterday and I was considering going to the metal rail, but you can't use your original sights. You have to get the sights for the Standard or could switch to the Williams.

What's the model number of the Williams that you got?

Gregg-

Thanks for the reply - downloading the pdf now. I'm putting this williams on

https://www.natchezss.com/category.c...TOKEN=15423535

See if that link works. its the >1" version (they divide into > and < 1") and the whole site base is included for front and back. The front looks good, a tad smaller than the original, but excellent. the rear doesnt have the advantage of the markings on elevation and windage but I can figure it out from the old sight. Plus they're significantly brighter. now just to get that pin out - I figured that was it, but I didnt wanna start tapping without knowing for sure.

mattsguns,

Did you get your Williams on and how do you like them?

I don't know if you are aware or not that the Camper has a history of the plastic rear sight mount base (Browning part # B5152608) breaking. Mine broke the first time at the range. Browning sent me another one, but I'm not putting it on because with the Camper's history of it breaking I figured it would just break again. I didn't find out about this problem until after I had bought my Camper and then read about the repeated breakings on rimfirecentral.com.

I'm considering ordering the metal base (Part # B5152693), the one for the Standard, but then the original sights from the Camper don't fit it. I would need to order the sights from Browning for the Standard (Part # B5152754) or switch to Williams Firesights.

Did you replace your original plastic sight mount base or mount the Williams on the original plastic base that comes on the Camper?

I looked at the URL for what you ordered and that's why I wanted to know if you used the original sight mount base or switched to the metal one so I know which Williams to order.

Thanks, Gregg

Wink

The rear sight broke on my Buckmark too, at the two nubs where the pin goes thru. I just repaired it with JB Weld, and it's been good for the last few years.

BigDog,

My sight didn't break, it's the plastic sight mount base. It split in half at the very rear where the rear screw fastens down.

Ah! A very different thing indeed. I'd go with the metal top rail too in that case.

I have been trying to post that very question, but my posts don't appear, I most be doing something wrong. My question, simply, is: can I install an aftermarket scope mount, such as the Weignad, by removing and replacing the rear sight assembly? Thanks.
