Taking The Law Into Your Own Hands

This was an article an poll on the Neal Boortz web site:

Now here's another phrase that twists my short hairs. We had an incident in Atlanta last week where a civilian, Shawn Roberts, saw a crime being committed, and took action Roberts was driving down a suburban Atlanta street when he saw a black male beating a white woman and trying to force her into a car. Roberts turned around to see the car driving off with the predator behind the wheel and the woman fighting for her life in the passenger seat. Roberts continued to follow the car as the female continued to fight her abductor. The car swerved into the path of a cement truck. The resulting accident killed the woman, but the !!!!!!! who had carjacked and kidnapped her was unhurt. He jumped out of the car and ran .... Shaw Roberts was right behind him. The perp had a gun and pointed it at Roberts. Roberts had a gun and used it to blow the worthless POS away. Oh .. and by the way, the perp had raped and beaten a woman in Atlanta the week before. He'll never do it again, and the Georgia taxpayers will never have to pay to feed the SOB in jail.

The poll on the site:

Was Shawn Roberts a hero or dangerous vigilante?

I vote hero he was protecting someone when it initially occured -- its really too bad he did not have a rifle he could have stopped and shot they guy while he was outside of the car in the first place. Years ago there was a bank robbery just south of Nashville where the cops were outgunned and were taking some heavy fire from the perp. in fact he had wounded to cops. All it would have taken was a single shot from a rifle to stop the issue. Since then I keep the flattop AR in 6x45mm in the trunk with a full mag. in the softcase

That's a tough one. In my eyes he's a hero. But it's going to be tough for officials to make a decision. Ya, they want to applaud this guy for doing the right thing, but they're not going to want it to sound like they approve of everyone with a gun taking the law in their own hands. To the cops there's going to be a lot of what-ifs they would ask. Like, what if there were bystanders behind Clark, what if you had hit a person or a child? I'm glad he got this scumbag, sounds like the courts weren't doing anything to get this guy off the street with some of the awful stuff he had already been convicted of and released from jail.

That's amazing that he got the guy after just a few shots. I'm pretty good at the range, but I can't imagine being in a situation with someone shooting at me, on the run, and hitting him in a couple shots.

Hero. Period. If he's a vigilante like the minutemen then Bush is the vice president of mexico.

Screw the officals. Right is right.

Is it a legitimate poll if there's only one possible answer? Of course he's a hero. He may also be a vigilante, but the two aren't always mutually exclusive...

Not so much hero but an example of fine citizenship. If he’d saved the woman’s life he’d be a hero.

Like, what if there were bystanders behind Clark, what if you had hit a person or a child?

Ya, why didn't he shoot 400 rounds at the perp like a few law enforrcement agencies have done in recent instances past?

I say hero, vigilante has bad connotations to it, and you can thank a few idiots and the liberal press for that.....

Hero. He did the 'right thing' - not his fault the lady died. I applaud his trying.

As an honest citizen, his actions should be commended. With more people like this guy, I would feel safer personally.
