American Hunter Magazine Article on Slug Shells?

Does anyone out there get the NRA publication American Hunter? I've heard that the October issue has an article comparing all the shotgun slug ammo, with test fire results, etc.

Would like to see a copy of the article so I can use it to determine which slugs are likely to be best in the field and in target competition.

Sadly, American Rifleman, the NRA magazine that is part of my membership package, did not include that very important article this month.

A little help out there, please? Post the article or scan and email a copy, maybe? Thanks.

I've got it and read it. Don't have the means to post or scan thought sorry. Essentially it reported, for hunting, your good with just about any modern shotgun slug 50 yds and under (even smooth bore if you've got a scope or good sites). For over that, my smooth bore is not reliable with any ammo I've tried. I shot my buddies Marlin slug gun with his $15 SSTs and it shot exactly the same as the cheaper Remington Buckhammers I got from Wal-mart for $7 (on sale, regularly $8.97 I think). Needless to say, my friend was surprised and might not be wasting those 2 pints of beer anymore ;-)

take it easy.

PS...you can usually copy the articles out of magazine at local libraries if they carry the magazine or buy it at a magazine stand I think.

I live in a shotgun zone.. i use a mossburg 835 and my 2 sons use reminton 870's. just like a rifle get a few diffent loads and try them to see what shoots the best.. there are alot of diffrent slugs out there to try. we all have rifled bdls. 2 with scopes and 1 without. the mossburg likes the fed. primuin slugs. nothing else shoots worth a crap. now the 2 rem's 1 likes the lightfieds and the other likes winchester. your going to have to try each brand and see what flys.

NRA American Hunter Slug Accuracy Article

Thanks to all who sent me files and etc. on this article. I've chopped it up and repasted with the ads removed, so I could pass it out to our members and post it here and there. Anyone wants to see it, here's a link to the storage shelf........American Hunter Slug Accuracy Article

All the text is there, in sequence, and a couple box ends from some Hastings boxes that had their ballistics printed on the box. (NOT endorsing anyone, just thought it was neat that they did that.)

Again, thanks to all who jumped in to help out with this. :right:

Mr. Mom -- great advise about trying several different brands of ammo. My Mossberg smooth-bore likes Winchester SuperX (6" group at 100 yds) but abhors Remington slugs (can't hit a paper plate at 25 yds), the rifled tube is less finicky, but Lightfields shoot tigher than anything else I've tried...thus far.
