This is the current view from my back balcony on the apartment. I havecomplained and complained to management...they say they are going to have it cleaned up, but two months later this pile continues to grow!

Ditto on being very glad that you're alright and have a balcony to look from. Am I to understand that someone just dumped that stuff in your building's parking lot?

Matt call the firemarshalls office that is a major firehazard, if that does not work call the health department.

Last but not least calls code enforcement and it shoul dbe taken care of.

Basically, there were a few "less than desireable" tennants who skipped out on their lease and left a bunch of stuff behind. The mess you see was created by my apartment complex staff as they cleaned out the apartments....well...it's been two months since this pile started growing! It's still there!

I'll call Code Compliance and ask them to come have a look!

That sucks.

My fiancee has the same problem. Her apt complex has a single 'automatic compaction' dumpster. Well, if someone decides they are too lazy to put their stuff in the dumpster, they leave it on the sidewalk. Next thing you know, everyone ASSUMES the dumpster is full, and leaves their crap all over the sidewalk. Unfortunately, there seems to be not much we can do about it. I even talked to the truck driver that picks up the dumpster, and as he was personally loading all the crap from the sidewalk, he said "oh, I gotta do this crap all the time."

Hey Dale.....while I have not seen rats, I have seen possums and the like. The pile has been rained on several times and just keeps getting larger. It smells as well.

Calling Code Compliance as well today.

I can understand your disgust with that mess. We have folks like that here...can't post a picture to prove my words but, I share your pain. I just try to ignore it. Since managers won't act, city won't act.....there seems little else one can do but put up with it or move. Sad, yes?

That's pathetic. If the city and managers won't act, get the local press involved. If that doesn't work, take them to court.

Matt you may not see rats but its like I used to tell single women if they think they have a prowler or something and they know the locals LEO's won't respond right away call 911 and say, " I smell smoke". Sirens will roll and prowlers will leave fast.

So in your case rats have taken up residence in the pile and you fear for the small children in the complex.

The WORST part about it is this just shows you what kinds of people you have been forced to have as neighbors! I lived in a Apt where I was surrounded by heavy drinking 'trailer trash' types - I was always worried one would shoot at somebody ( or a TV, or whatever) and come thru the walls and get me. I was NEVER so happy as the day I bought my first house. The thing that really made me mad then, was, discovering it is about the same expense as renting! Really, you would be amazed of you looked into home ownership, and I DON'T mean condos.

Considered a hazard

Hey everyone,

Am new here, so forgive me if I'm just jumping in. Matt, not only is this a fire hazard, but because there are used mattresses etc, it is also considered a health hazard also. Your local health department should be able to sort this out for you if your landlord is unwilling. It's quite an eyesore to look at everyday. Good luck.
