Unhappy Sad news this week at work

Russell was a great guy and a good engineer, It's too bad he had to go out like this. He was the pit planner at our company before taking a better offer down under.

Australian croc kills British snorkeler

DARWIN, Australia, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A 13-foot saltwater crocodile in northern Australia has killed a British man who was snorkeling 65 feet from shore.

Russell Harris, 37, disappeared
Saturday afternoon off Picnic Beach, resulting in an aerial and marine search by police and civilians, the BBC reported. His body was not found until Sunday in a river.
A Northern Territory police spokesman told ABC Radio a 13-foot saltwater crocodile spotted in the area was believed to have been responsible for the man's death.

"Police strongly suspect that's what has occurred. There are a number of injuries on the deceased and also there was a crocodile sighted very close to where the deceased was located," he said.

Harris' remains were flown to Darwin for an autopsy.

Harris had been working on the island for five months for Gemco, a part of the mining group BHP Billiton.

Whoa! That's no way for a good man to go. I'll send a prayer for him and his family.

Thumbs down

Always figured fire would be the worst way to go...but a crock would rank right up there as not the way to go out.

The tragedy even made it on ABC this morning. They actually blamed (kindasorta) environmentalist for stopping hunting and killing of crocs. Well due to the ban on hunting crocs.
Then ABC showed that STUPID film clip of Steve Erwin? the crocilile hunter downunder feeding a croc and holding his infant in his arms. Then bounce walking the litte ittybitty baby in same pen with the croc he just gave a treat.
He atta be wacked up side the head with a rolled up newspaper like a dog when it goes wewe on the carpet.
Years ago at Brazos Bend State Park, took my two sons fishing from pier. An alligator swam up close. I was more interested in seeing it than looking at boys. Then I #2 son about 6yrs old then climbed on top rail of pier. What an evil looking gator! He had his eyes on my son. Ahhhh! Picked #2 off rail. BOY!!!
Thought we were on top of the food chain?

Of course, because all men are created equal, and just because his father did it to him, and he has 40 years of experience with crocodiles,
and does that practically every day, he should be treated the same as,
say, some potatoe farmer who's never seen a croc before

Great line from the movie, "The Beast Master":

"Meet the animal on it's own terms, and you find you are not so strong after all."
