I have the P89 Safety model with one minor issue, depending on how you look at it.
When I work the slide very slowly and gingerly guide the slide forward with the safety ON, the hammer will catch and remain cocked.
When the safety is ON, the hammer should always be released and decocked.
When working the slide in a normal fashion by just letting it go, this does not happen.
The issue comes into play when I discover that the hammer may fall with slight forward pressure of the slide or other jaring, such as lightly knocking the gun on a hard surface, or turning the safety OFF.
Initially, I was concered because, with the hammer cocked and the safety ON, I may decide to turn the safety OFF with a quick motion, thus allowing the hammer to fall and strike without the firing pin block in place, resulting in the firing of the chambered round.
I was told this would not happen since the firing pin does not engage without the trigger being retracted; however, I have not tested this.
So, I was wondering, since this is the situation, if anyone else had made this observation or if there is some likely way or reasonable cause to have this issue fixed, or just consider to unload the gun?
I bought it new and it has always been that way, and it might be OK, but I just did not like it.
