The DeHavilland Beaver has been one of my favorites since way back in the 1950's. After all Beaver . . . (I couldn't bring myself to say it!) I know you can get a laugh, too.

I have always wondered if the DeHavilland people really understood how much humor thay have brought to the aircraft world!

I've never flown the Beaver or Otter, I own a Beaver, I bought it in the early eighties from the insurance company that paid off on it. It's sitting on the bottom of a lake in Canada. The pilot got hurt, the plane sat on the water until it sank.
Yes, I appreciate a good laugh, even if I'm not the one makeing the joke.

Got home yesterday evening about 7:00 P.m. after a long flight from Shannon, Ireland, via Newark, NJ. Using local times, yesterday morning we left Killkenny via motorcoach at 6:00 a.m., rode to Shannon, via Tipperary and Limerick. Flight left Shannon at 10:00 a.m.

Arrived in Newark seven hours later. After going through customs and security we finally made it through the process and were boarded only to have to wait another hour for an instrument light in the cockpit to be repaired before departing finally for Kansas City International Airport.

All in all the flight took approximately seven hours across the Atlantic to Newark, and another two hours there before the final three hour leg on to K.C.

Biggest incident was that my wife walked off from her carry on luggage at the luggage check point thinking I was pulling it for her and when we were about forty feet away we turned back to go retrieve it. Too late...it was lost by that time among the hundreds of other bags that were to be boarded laying on the conveyor belts. This caused us considerable stress because of the potential lost contents in her carry on bag. Finally this moring we were notified by Continential Airlines that it had been found and will arrive around 11:00 a.m. this morning at KCI Airport. My wife's been dancing with joy from the moment she learned the luggage was found.

Anyway, yes, we tested plenty of Irish beer, mainly Guiness beer, which is definitely the most popular beer in Ireland. Even toured the Guiness beer warehouse/museum in Dublin two days ago. It included seven floors of beer making history and displays related to Guiness's history...followed up with a pint of free Guiness on the top floor. There we also could view a panoramic view of Dublin as we drank free Guiness beer while we looked over their historic city above all the other historical roof tops.

This tour finalized our vacation which lived up to what we had hoped for while visiting the Republic of Ireland.

Some of the places visited were Dingle Peninsula, Muckross Castle, Waterford, Kilkenny, Glendalough, Dublin, St Patrick's Cathederal, and much more.

Yes, I found my way in more pubs than one could imagine. Pubs were the most common places to eat and have entertianment. Went to an Irish concert featuring traditional Irish music and songs. Than we spent another evening in a pub with dinner and another Irish entertainer while sipping Guiness. Even brought home a couple of pints of Irish whiskey for my two son's in law to sample.

Enough on this for now...but we had a great vacation in Ireland.

Thumbs up

Thrawn...Of course while in Ireland I had to buy "Irish Whiskey." On the bottle in addition to the words Irish Whiskey it says "Special Reserve", Distilled & Matured in the Republic of Ireland...Matured in Oak Casks for a minimum of 3 years to produce a Rich Bouquet and Smooth, Full Round Flavour. N.J. Sweeney, 40% Vol, 35 cl

Yes and it's as smooth as a baby's butt covered with lather from millions of other foolish tourists, like me, who climbed up to the top of Blarney Castle one step at a time for 105 steps through a small spirling stairway to it's tower where each of us visitors showed how to look foolish lieing down on our backs, and after bending backwards, bending our heads down about six inches to kiss the lipstick/slobberly covered ancient stone wall. :insane:

Been there done that now... but I'm off to my doc now to get anti kissing disease shots.
