did i get boned

Hi Iam new here and new to hand guns I just bought a 1911 its built on an essex frame and has a mark IV colt barrel . It was 525, The shop I want to stired me toward it I wass vary willing to spend more and told them many times. I really wanted a para ord 1911 or a springfeild long slide. I shot about 200 rounds through it its not vary acurite and it jams alot. the guy at the range said it needed to be broken in he said its no springfeild but its not a hi piont either. This really pissed me off seeing as i was willing to spend the money on a better gun . so the question is did i get boned.

Sounds like they wanted to unload that POS. Trade it back, and get what you wanted first. You'll be happier.

I would also think about moving my business to a different shop in future, if possible.

Maybe you can sell it yourself as a "custom" gun and get back all your $!! But I wouldn’t count on it. Trade it in at a gun show and get what you really wanted in the first place.

Bits N Pieces

Make enough of a fuss, you should be able to turn the junker back in on a 1911 whose bits and pieces at least all came from the same maker's parts bin. At that price, you can get a couple different low-end guns (Thompson comes to mind) but likely better off putting more bucks on the counter to get what you wanted in the first place.

Most gunshops will try to be reasonable. :gangster:

If these guys are inclined to be knotheads, then an "in their face" approach may be needed. They gave you a hosing, they need to make good on it.

Offer to come back every Saturday afternoon until forever to discuss exchanging that junker for a real gun.......that oughtta work, especially if the store owner is drawn into the chat.

Nobody wants a long term hassle over one sale.

If they don't want to make it right go back to the shop every weekend when there are other customers around and discuss/argue about their ripping you and poor after sales service etc loudly enough with the clerk so the other customers can hear you. Maybe they'll decide it's better to make you happy than lose other customers.

1911 Bargain Baby

Tell them to get you one of these, if you want a good value for low bucks that will be as "on-target" as Colt for way less...... Retail on this puppy is only $592.00 and its MADE IN USA

Of course for another $200.00, same outfit has this pretty puppy, full stainless with all the trimmings:

Still under Colt and way under the Custom guns, and made by the TommyGun guys at Auto Ordnance. :full:
Kinda interesting, for a cheapie $.45 I've got a couple, AND the Colt1991A1, and the AO Thompsons are just as good at the range, but the Colt is classier looking, by just a tiny bit.

Ask for credit towards the purchase of what you want. They should atleast accomodate you for that. If not leave and call for the owner, ask to meet with him but do not tell him about the problem over the phone. If all else fails do the following:

You can sit outside their business and let everyone know how they swindled you. Be Careful though, you must be accurate in how you present yourself. Stick to the facts and don't make any opinionated statements.

IE: They steered me to this gun, I wanted another manufacturer, the gun is not as accurate as they led me to believe, It has feeding problems, they will not return it for credit... etc....

Talked to my friend about it, I'd like more information about the pistol, is the barrel the only Colt part? or was the slide changed? Let us know.

iam not sure . I talked some more to this guy at the gunshop\range i go to not the place i bought it he said if I cant get the thing to work by dec 3 when i do the ccw class ther he will let me give them the gun for credit toward a reilable handgun . about my finger iam right handed so the gun had to be held ocwardly in left no worries it was unloaded ofcourse. I have no idea on the name of the slide I dont see any names in plane sight but this is my first gun so i have no idea were to look, the barrel is ported and the part of the gun where the shell hits then angels up in to the barrel was polished. The guy at the shop told my the angel was off and told me if a felt comfortable about taking a dremmil tool to it and grinding the angle down then repolishing it . I was scared but did it the last time i went shooting the firearms proforence was improved . It only jamed like 5 times out of 200 rounds, and usellygot all 8 rounds into a 8 inch group. I know thats sad but it means ther is a chance Iam just a bad shot and the gun might aim straight. Now it did still go jam-o-matic with federal hydra-shok hollow points, and I really think it would be dangerous to carry a a side arm with fmj on the street with a ccw.

Good advise above, don't grind, let someone else grind, I've owned many 1911A1 and Commanders and I don't grind on them. I found the ICC Frangible hollow points feed well in my Commander, many hollow points won't feed. Maybe go to a stock barrel. Most of the barrels available will drop in, and should work fine. Let us know where you are, some of us are in Caspian & Essex country.
