I have signed a national petition supporting the President's nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. A staunch judicial conservative, Judge Alito believes in "limited government", "free enterprise," "strong defense," "effective law enforcement," and "the legitimacy of a government role in protecting traditional values" (his words). He also said: "The Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion." Of course the media and certain members of Congress are trumpeting that last remark. Sen. Kennedy has already demanded that Alito recant from this position... I believe the nomination of Judge Alito is best for our nation. He is highly qualified, a man of impeccable character who is a strong Pro-Life conservative--someone with a lengthy record as an originalist who will uphold the intended meaning of the Constitution. Join with me in standing in support of Judge Alito, and against liberal attacks by adding your name to this important petition. | Resident Armed Liberal ![]() | Although Bush isn't my favorite guy, he's the president
To me, that means that his nominees should be confirmed unless someone can show reason otherwise. And although little Harriet was a joke, I don't think anyone can argue with this guy's resume and record. Of course there's one problem: he actually seems to think occasionally before making up his mind, instead of just checking a list of ideological bullet points and ruling accordingly. That's a habit that's guaranteed to tee off both ends of the political spectrum... My impression, as a fairly liberal guy by the standards of this board, is that I'm going to disagree with him more often than not. But I also doubt that his decisions or opinions will be absurd, or intellectually indefensible. |
