Bought my first pistol today....

Thanks to those who offered advice. After a week of research, opinion taking, reading, and playing with numerous guns.....I go and buy a gun I know nothing about. But I liked the way it felt. I liked the way it looked. Sales guy seemed like a nice guy. But you guys can tell me. I got a 9mm Sig SP2009, new in case, with 5 magazines for 440.00. I went to buy a Ruger P95, but I couldn't get over the mag realease. It felt like it would really dig in to my middle finger after a few rounds. I've heard nothing but good things about Sig, but I've never seen anything about this gun specifically. I pick up Thursday and we'll see how it goes then.

SIGs are great - and I say that as a dyed-in-the-wool 1911 owner. Of all DA pistols, the SIG is the one I'd want. My buddy has a P220 that we both really like. Another buddy will soon have his FFL, and will be the local SIG sales guy. By my next birthday, I hope to be a SIG owner myself. :cheer:

My only SIG is a Sig/Hammerli target gun, but I love it. I've never fired one of the big autos, but just like Glock, Ruger, and SW revolvers, the reputation precedes them. I hope it lives up to your expectations as I'm sure it will.

My brother carries a Sig in .40 on duty. (Dept. issue) I've shot it a couple times and really like it. However, I'm still leaning to the Springfield XD for my next pistol. But, I must admitt, BRG3 keeps putting in a plug for the Styer and I'd like to have a chance to check one out. You should be well served by your new Sig. We'll be awaiting your first range report.

Good move in choosing the 9mm over the .40 or .45 for your first handgun. It's hard enough for a beginner to learn good technique with a nine. No need for a larger caliber

IMO, nothing is more important than a gun that feels good in your hand. Good choice.

I tend to hold the different view, that if you just accept that a gun will recoil and learn how to operate it, simply getting used to a 45 can be better than practicing with a 9 and then upping to 45 and having more power than you've practiced for.

But of course a good hit with a 9mm is better than a miss with a 45.

Yes. Three days on handguns. No wait on rifles or shotguns. If you have a concealed weapons permit you can take home the same day. Just picked it up. Headed to the range around 830 in the morning.

I've said it before, but I gotta say it again.
In NJ it takes 2-6 months to get pistol permits, and one guy I know had it take 10 months.
Three days waiting is like the promised land...angels singing and light from above....If only we could get them in three days..or three weeks...or even months, sometimes.
Count yourself fortunate.
