Man I'm going to be public enemy #1 today, but sorry....those guys are irritating as He!! They don't ring untill you are getting near them and they play a guilt trip on you and look at you as some !!!!!!! for walking. Sorry fellas, I know it's for a good cause and all, but their representitive bell ringers only do it at this time of the year when people spend the most money, and they creep me out. |

cause the salvation army represents a christian organization and France/french have been as secular as they can be for a long time. So it doesn't surprise me that they would not allow a religious organization to step foot on thier property.

Sadly it's not private property, so they can't ban these guys. | |

I believe there a lot of misinformation flying around, including some relating to Target's corporate stand against veterans. With only a brief search I've found a link which Target Corp. posted which appears to be their written policy on this subject. http://urbanlegends.about.com/librar...-veterans3.htm Also, here's my take on Salvation Army Bell Ringers, which has been mentioned above. Having donated at least one day each year to be a bell ringer, I've learned a lot about customer's reactions to us as we ring those silly bells. Here goes: 1. If you don't want to give, dont. We won't hassle you. 2. Person arriving in a big shiny expensive new car gives nothing, if at all. 3. Person arriving in a junk car barely drivable gives by far the most to charity. 4. Many parents try to model to their young children to give to charities and oftentimes give them coins to contribute. 5. Most people don't give as they walk into stores...but, if at all, give as they leave after getting a few coins in change. 6. As you greet incoming customers many will smile and say something like "Merry Christmas", etc. 7. Others will hold their heads down, look away, and look like they've got more troubles than anyone should have. 8. If we have a live Christmas dog standing beside us most parents will let their young kids come over and either look at him or pet him...before donating. 9. If it's extremely cold more contributions seem to be donated. 10. If we stand perfectly still and quiet only the most generous will notice us and contribute. So these are only a few of my observations about human nature as we try to collect funds for the Salvation Army. If you have never been on that side of the collection pot, you might try it some time to learn a whole lot about the so called Christmas Spirit.:right:

I don't have anything against Salvation Army bellringers. But I think some stores are starting to ban them because other organizations are pushing the "discrimination" complaint to get themselves in front of the store too, and the stores don't want their customers running a gauntlet to get in and out. Reading that "Christian Activists" are accusing Target of being anti-christian and pushing a gay agenda just makes me feel tired. That sort of christian activist is usually more of a village idiot, to my mind. I'm not homosexual but I honestly think that after the cold war ended, a lot of people were lost without the godless communists for a bogey man. After casting around for a while, many of them seem to have settled on the Gay Agenda as an acceptable substitute for the Red Menace, and gone right on with their fund-raising.. |

I can understand, though, when stores finally have had it with too many charitable organizations wanting to use their store fronts to solicit funds. Something's got to be done. It's a no win game for them, regardless of who they say no or yes to. At this time, Hy Vee grocery stores are where my Rotary Club assists the Salvation Army two weekends each year. One two hour donation of my time during those two weeks is enough for me.:right:

I meant no offense to either Veterans or Bell Ringers for the S.A. I drive a 1990 Toyota 4X4 all beat up...I ain't got the money, but when it comes to helping people out, I do my best. Man of little means, can't give fortunes he doesn't have. I do what I can. Just for the record :right: |

myarmor...You're the kind of guy I'd appreciate walking into a store where I was bell ringing for the Salvation Army. I'd be surprised if you didn't drop the only buck you had left in your pocket into my kettle after buying your family groceries.:right: And I would definitely tell you "Merry Christmas," too. You guys relate to people who need a little help once in a while. That makes my day to meet good down to earth citizens like you then and wish them well at Christmas.

Not from me. You'll notice I made no mention of the salvation army or christmas. This hassle I described is a daily ritual for this local church, january through december. Sometimes they border on kidnapping (preventing people from leaving). This is never cool, even in December. |

I help people in my own way, My time is more available than my cash. I understand how people feel on some subjects. I had a bell ringer ring his bell in my face a few years ago. Close enough to speak into it like a microphone, Otter wasn't in a good mood at the time and I grabbed the bell and threw it as far as I could toward the parking lot. "Fetch, !!!!!!!!" I've also had run ins with Satin Clause and Ronald McDonald. Ronald told me I had a McAttitude, I told him if he spoke to me again I would rip his head off and McShit down his neck. My time is the best thing I can offer too, as money isn't easy, just as otter said. But it's good to know exactly where the money does in fact go that a person gives to an organization. Compassion is a good thing to have for ones of little means. Even though us common guys won't get it from any higher class, it doens't mean we should reflect that attitude to ones of lesser means. Then that would make us no better, would it? And I'm sorry...but that story from Otter cracked me up though.. Everyone has a bad day, some just have more than others. |

1.) I have no prob with the Salvation Army. If you dont like who ask for charity there, shop somewhere else. 2.) I wonder how many people in New Orleans were bugged by bell ringers but sing a different tune now? As far as stores worring about discrimination, I dont see why they worry. They should allow the charities they want and not others, whats the big deal? Its a capatalist system, if they do things the public doesnt want, they wont stay in business long. Last I checked, this country has a majority of Christians and people who believe in Judeo/Christian ideals. I wouldnt care if they had a flying spaghetti monster charity in front of a store. (see number 1) Sorry if I got on a rant there.....

Back to the basis of the first post...what was it? Four years ago...three? That Target told Marines' Toys for Tots to take a hike? Get the hint all...they are anti-vets...anti-military...anti-everything American.

I wish they'd all put the decorations away. The commercialization of Christmas has ruined it completely for me.
