I stumbled onto another gun shop today. Advantage of my job; I do a lot of driving. The guy didn't have any Mosins, although he did have a pair of gorgeous Swedish Mausers for $250.00 each.
Spent a few minutes talking, since I was on my way home anyway, and he told me that about ten years ago a bunch of Polish M44's came into the country. He said he personally sold about fifty of them, at two hundred bucks apiece.
According to him they were beautiful: apparently brand new, well-finished and polished, commercial quality bluing, pristine blonde wood that reminded him of bird's-eye maple.
Unfortunately, ten years ago I had never even heard of a Mosin-Nagant, much less a Polish M44 (I'm a late bloomer in the milsurp field). Does this jog anyone else's memory?
I also picked up a box of Brown Bear 203-grain, just to see what it's like. I'm thinking of going after pigs in the badlands east of Beaumont...
I haven't run across any Polish models, but did see a gorgeous laminated M44 a while back and wish I had picked it up. I know what you mean about not having heard of a Mosin 10 years ago. Same here. I only started reading about them in the last year or so and have since purchased two Mosins.
