I won't be holding my "sack" for fear of the little vermin, we got black squirrels in Americus, KS. As far as I know they haven't killed anything in Americus bigger than a walnut.

Yep, squirrels will eat anything if they are starving, even meat. They eat bird eggs, mushrooms, all kinds of stuff most people don't realize.
