Although he's mainly remembered as the anti-Vietnam War senator who stunned Lyndon Johnson into not running for re-election, he was also known for quotable quotes. A sampling: Being in politics is like being a football coach. You have to be smart enough to understand the game, and dumb enough to think it's important. It is dangerous for a national candidate to say things that people might remember. The only thing that saves us from the bureaucracy is inefficiency. An efficient bureaucracy is the greatest threat to liberty. |

Hmmm...you know what they say. If you don't remember the 'sixties, you were there...I also have a beer mug that says, "things are a lot more like they used to be than they are now." I heartily agree with his quote about bureaucracy, and extend it to government in general. |
