I'm looking to get a good .22lr semi-auto single action pistol. I have my eyes set on a beretta u22 neos. But i preferrably want a bull barrel and a barrel weight. Which leads me to the beretta 87 target cheetah. But its nearly twice the $$$ of the neos and the trigger looks weird. Ahh what a conundrum... help?
I have a Sig Trailside target with the adjustable grip. Phenomenal gun. Comes with a 25m test target with 5 sots touching too. Also have a target grade mk2. A much more affordable gun and almost as good for half the price.

If you are looking at spending under $400, then try a Buckmark, a Ruger Mark II if you can still find one, or even a Ruger 22/45. Shoot A LOT, since ammo is cheap. Learn first on open sights before trying red dot sights. Download some NRA targets used for Bullseye shooting and get an idea of what they use.
If you get serious with target shooting with .22 pistol, there are many upgrades you can do. A good trigger job on a Ruger can help tremendously and take you to a high level.
I think i go with the ruger. Anyone got some comments or tips before i buy this gun?
PS Oh if i jump the gun and go for a .22wmr, does anybody know anything about the accelerator pistol from excel arms or the amt from high standard.(although im not sure if they still make the amt)
I think the Ruger Mk2 is an excellent choice. I'm on my second one since I foolishly sold the first. I'd say definitely get one with adjustable sights and stainless. I have the stainless bull barrel model with the target grips, but I'm not sure its really that much more accurate. Its !!!! nice out the box though. I'd say get a tapered 6" barrel with adjustable sights and spend the cash you saved on a trigger job and a pair of target grips that are exactly what you want.

I would disagree with "practical" and forget the tapered barrel. Get the bull barrel. The top shooters who started with Ruger mostly all started with a 5.5 inch bull barrel. I would also try going with a Mark II (MK512) instead of a Mark III, based upon what I have read from the top bullseye gunsmiths in the country who have worked on them. You probably won't find one new, however. The stainless will add almost a hundred dollars to the price over the blued. The web site for Ruger is rather incomplete in their info http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/P-CategoryPistolsRF.html
Again, I can't recommend enough going to the web sites I mentioned earlier and researching FIRST. You will not find better resources anywhere on the net.
I've got a Buck Mark Camper and have changed the rear sight mount to metal and put a Hi-Viz on the front. Very accurate and doesn't care what kind of ammo. I've been using the bulk Fed HP Wal-Mart's.
Browning has a lot of Buck Mark models to choose from. http://www.browning.com/products/cat...asp?value=006B
Check the gun shops for a S&W mod 41. If you can find one you will have a great gun which you can still buy diffrent barrel lengths to tickle your fancy, One of the clasic shooters.
Not an expert on the NEOS's accuracy, but in trying one at a range, found it to be one of the only 22 semis that didn't jam on me. Others have similar reviews. Me, I prefer reliability over other things, and can get used to a trigger pull more than clearing jams.

I have a Ruger MarkII stainless 5.5 inch and a Ruger 22/45 blued 5.5 inch.
Also a Dan Wesson 22 revolver blued 6in ....and a Buckmark Pro Target nickel5.5 inch.
If I had to choose it would be the Buckmark. It was exactly on target right out of the box.
The others are fine guns I just think the Buckmark has an edge on them.
But then we all know that its just shooters preference.
