| Freaking finally!
The setting sun marks not only the end of a day, but the end of my life as a civillian. As of around 11:00 December 19 2005, I am a Private in the Army National Guard, Cannon Crewmember in Battery A 1st Battalion 258th FIeld Artillery. I'll ship out to Basic on Febuary 22nd. It's funny, when I took the oath of enlistment, I got a feeling of something being lifted off of me, and something sweeling in my chest. I'm going to go ahead and classify it as a swelling of pride. Minutes after I took a pair of scissors graciousley provided by one of the guys at the Guard Liason office, and in front of everyone cut off my scalp lock. I was going to throw it away, but they said "don't leave it here." That's an odd thing to say. I mean, it's just hair. Afterwards, SSGT Casey and I drove to the Newburg Armory to meet the guys who'll be in charge of me untill I'm MOS qualified. The Sergeant in charge of me until I ship out has been to Iraq more times than anyone else in the unit, he bought an SUV with the money he got from it, and after talking to me for an hour and a half, he called me weird. I think I accomplished alot today. So, In closing, Private Edward Mayhue Ramsey = 1, Military Enlistment Processing Command = 0.

Big congrats, Ed!! The next few (or many . . . ) years will be an adventure. Sometimes boring, sometimes scary - but always memorable. Carry a camera - wish I had documented my experiences more.

There is going to be times when you are thinking "I don't get paid enough to do this!" and then will be more times you say "I can't believe they pay me to do this!!!!". Cannon crew member - 13B Pull string, gun goes boom! We Infantry grunts called y'all "Gun Bunnies". |

Ah yes, Ft. Silly, Oklahoma. I'm quite familiar with Ft. Sill. That was my last active duty station before I left active duty in '97. I ended getting assigned to Range Control for the last 9 months I was in. That is by far the EASIEST job I've ever had. I can tell you anything you want to know about Ft. Sill. Are you going to be in a 155mm M109 Palidin unit? |
