Stupid Stupid Stupid

I was at the range the other day shooting my knight. I loaded her up and before i put the cap on, someone wanted to go down range and check their target. A guy came in next to me, in the mean time, and we got to talking. He had a Kentuccky long rifle muzzle loader and after talking to him a while, I went back to my bench and proceeded to load my muzzle loader again. Of course as soon as I pushed the rod down and it stopped about a 1 1/2 inches too soon I knew exactly what had happened. The only good news was that I had to go to our new Bass-Pro Shop to get a bullet puller.

That's not as bad as the time we watched a kid touch off his muzzle-loader, and fired his ramrod thru the 50 yard target frame - sideways. Bloodied him (LOTS of recoil from that big a projectile!) and mangled the ramrod.

After the big Civil War battles, many rifles were found with up to five or six loads rammed home - it seems the guys neglected to put caps on, and thought they were shooting, then just reloading . . . Scary.

Not quite as stupid as some! I have pulled all manner of projectiles from muzzleloaders when the deer season opened. It seems that some folks will leave their rifles loaded all year, and then realise "OH SHIT!" when they load them up (again) for Bambi.

Pulling round ball is bad enough, Sabots are just a pain.

I had a history teacher in school who was a big civil war buff. He said during the (as we southerners call it) "war against Northern agression", after battles, many of the trees would have ramrods in them from scared troops firing their rifles before removing the ramrod.
