I've been reading all the great reviews on the Hi Point firearms and I've decided to buy one. I think I'm going with the 9mm Carbine, and I was wondering what sort modifications and/or upgrades you guys recommend for this gun. I've never owned a carbine, and the most complicated gun I've ever used is a 7mm Remington Magnum for hunting, so any ideas or tips are greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone have any experience with the 9mm COMP (not the Compact)?
Yeah, I saw those on their site, but I'm wondering about what I should do as far as rails and things of that nature go. Do those compensators actually work? I have zero experience with them. I'm also wondering if you can thread the barrels on their pistols to put a silencer on it, just a thought.
I like both a 4X scope and the Red Dot on my 9mm Carbine. Bad thing is, you can have the iron sights OR the optics. Installing the scope rail requires removing the rear peep sight.
I went ahead and removed the front sight and barrel shroud too - just not needed. Makes the gun a little more streamlined.
Otherwise, it's a great package. Accurate and reliable.
Yeah, I've been reading up on the 9mm Carbine, seems like a solid investment, for a dink-around gun. It caught me first becase its made in the US.
Do you think some of those raised scope mount would work, the ones that have a little gap under the scope to use the iron sights? I've got them on one of my .30-.30's, and they function decently

I talk to the guy via e-mail when I notified them about a conflict of information. I can't wait to get mine. I wish that the clips from the carbine and the 9mm COMP were interchangable. How much did you pay for yours, Eric?
Solid investment? Financially, no. They do not sell well used.
Functionally? Yes. Hi-Points warranty service is stellar. I cannot think of anything that they have not repaired/replaced for FREE. This includes bubbafication (though I wouldn't push them on it.)

I recently purchased a 995 carbine, and I have a few questions regarding this 9mm fun gun:
1. What is the rate of twist?
2. What is the most accurate factory ammo?
3. What is the best powder to use for reloads?
4. What bullet weight provides optimum accuracy?
BTW, I'm new here. But I'm not really too weird... At least that's what the voice inside my head keeps telling me.

Don't know about the rifling details. Mine shoots a noticibly tighter group with the steel-cased Wolf 9mm, then Remington and Federal. Winchester is the least accurate, though all shoot well for a basic carbine. I've always used 115 grain FMJ - don't know how it would do with reloads or non-FMJ bullets.
The Wolf ammo clocks faster on the chrony, and I can feel the stiffer recoil. The fact that this cheap ammo is more accurate is a bonus! :right:

Mine doesn't have the compensator. With the weight of the Carbine, I really doubt it would make much difference - there just isn't much muzzle jump at all.
My gunshop has box 50 Wolf in 115 FMJ for about $6.00. Love the 9mm carbine I bought it 6-8 months ago. I am now looking to replace it with a RRA 9mm AR-15 new to RRA this year. I also hear RRA is coming out with a .308 AR-15 ! Super !
Hello all, I'm the fng here. I can't believe there's a forum for this carbine, I got mine back in 02 , put maybe 3to 4k rounds thru it. I got the 9040 too, put maybe 1500 rounds thru it,now I'm training it to be a 100 yard shooter. Bipod, Bushnell 4x12 , I have a Brons 35mw GREEN laser on the 990, it's a very consistant shooter at 50 yards.I'm looking forward to the .45acp carbine, and rumor has it, there may be a .357sig carbine in the works.These are great little carbines, cheap to shoot, easy to maintain, and very reliable and accurate.(that .357sig carbine would be a 200 yard shooter)
I have no idea what's legal in Cali. You might check your local state police post for a copy of your states gun laws.Either that or move to a more 2nd ammendment friendly state
