Okay, I'm going to stop reading Dennis' political posts, and stick to his stuff on guns (where he's awesome).

ETHICS IN WAR:

I think we(America) should always step into combat with ethics and do what is right. But however if are ethics arent going to be given in return to innocent people, we must can ethics and get done what needs to get done. I am not saying genocide, i am speaking of elimination of the terrorists and those who are trying to take our country back to the 7th century

"I see nuclear weapons as the greatest folly man has ever conceived." well if you want war is folly but sometimes is just. nuclear weapons have maintained the peace during the cold war thru mad ( mutual assured destruction). The first fission weapons saved a heck of a lot of lives on both sides in ww2. The fact is the genie is out of the bottle, and you cant wish it back in, it aint gonna happen. Rogue states developing nuclear stock piles must be shown that if they use them, they will bet met with overwhelming force. The nuclear deterent of the United states must be maintained. Its expensive but a fact of life. If states like Iran or north Korea believe they can persuade the United States from a position of nuclear strength, they are badly mistaken. The deterent of nuclear capability will be needed now, and more so in the future. we will not be holding hands and singing cum-ba-yah any time soon

Everything you said being true, 7mmag6, that doesn't make thermonuclear destruction any smarter for the human race. Nuclear weapons are the stupidest thing the human race has concocted (so far).
Why do so many people respond to statements that were never made.

I didn't say we should unilaterally disarm. Didn't even imply it, allude to it, or in any way suggest it. Geez....

Here's a new scenario:
Let's get rid of all the Islamic People, actually all dark skinned people. They haven't been very respectful to us lately. While we're at it let's get rid of the minorities in our country, and the women. They have been getting pretty uppity. Incinerate all of those splinter religions too. Let's get rid of the democrats and other commie liberals.
Eventually we will get down to twenty old men sitting around in a hunting camp eyeing each other suspiciously.
(I'm putting a smilie here because I know that someone will take me seriously.)
But, I like the idea....except the part where the 20 old guys are eyeing me!

Red face

There is a lot of great posts and great points. Unfortunatley, it will amount to nothing because there is nothing we can do. I posted how Iran is such a huge threat weeks ago and what is all over the news now? Iran has nukes. Anyways, I have posted all I need to further back in this certain thread.

sorry for the highjack, but on a similar topic i got into it over Christmas with my bro in law. as some of you may know we have elections coming up here in canada. so the politicians are prostituting themselves to us and trying to snag votes. the gun law thing is huge here. Paul Martin has gone from trying to go for an all out ban canada wide to making a proposal to go with something similar to what you boys in the States have. letting the provinices police the gun laws. for example you may find one province with a CCW law and another with the guns totally banned. now my bro in law believes that a total ban will do some good. i tried to avoid the confrontation but my sis in law got it rolling. here is a brief rundown of what happened. i asked if he belived that taking my guns away would stop some gas station clerk from getting robbed, he replied yes. i then asked if that same clerk was any less dead if he was done with a bat, knife, etc. if he thought so, the dead persons family might beg to differ. i asked if he was naive enough to believe that outlawing guns would prevent the flow of contraband guns into canada, he said yes. i countered with that crack, and all the other drugs were illegal so that it must be a figment of our imagination that they were here in canada. what with them being illegal already. so getting back to the topic of guns that kill people not people killing people i suggested that we ban all booze and vehicles on account of all the drunk driving deaths. then we should ban smoking, junk food, and so on. i mean all of these things result in death. heart disease being probably one of the worst. he now though i was being rediculous, and i was, however no less than he. he said that at least the government was trying and that if all people could do was complain that they werent helping. i said that if he wanted a novel new idea i had one. start by removing the revolving door in the prisons and courts. then move to privatised prisons and for heavens sake, put an end to the crap of inmates getting special meals on holidays and other assorted bull. a privatised corrections system would not be in the broke situation it is now. they are prisoners, not royalty. that is a very close recount of what happened, after my comment on fixing the prison system, not taking guns away from legal gun owners, the table went silent.

i think so, and granted there was more to the discussion, but i really didn't want to bore you guys too much. that is what makes these discussions so easy, a person who holds a belief like my bro in law is easily picked apart.

Metal, wood, and plastic. That's all guns are. I'm always amazed that people can't grasp that guns are tools and nothing more.
Nice to know down here isn't the only place where some people think guns have some kind of magical power. Dead is dead whether you were shot or choked with piano wire.
To quote Archie Bunker..."Would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was thrown outta windows."
I think alot of it has to do with a growing fear of death. People seem much less accepting of their inevitable fate these days. So when something can end life very quickly like a gun, they freak on it.
I don't know, just drifting into a pondering mood, I guess.

with all due respect.............no, they are just ignorant. it is as simple as that. anyone that thinks guns kill and not the person in control of the gun is just naive. until that gun finds itself in the hands of an idiot, it is just an object, that is all. no more dangerous than a bat, a knife, heck you could drown someone in jello if you were that twisted. that is what ALL of us are doing wrong, we are trying to understand this foolishness from a common sense point of view. that is not going to work, ever. dammit, there i go, ranting away again.

We have had some shootings locally with an AR-15. It pisses me off because it is ruining everything for us good people. You know, you cant even own a gun in San Fransikko. THAT IS CRAZY!!! Personally i think that that is unconstitutional, but then again, what do i know?

:joker: Of the anti-gun folks i have tryed to talk with, i've noticed one truth....that is, they can not be swayed until they find themselves in a situation where they are scared! Then, if the presance of a gun saves them, they are convienced. Take the 'hoe from kalifornica, fineswine....she's as anti as they get....but, she has a conceled carry permit. Go figure....if you think guns are so bad, then why are you licensed to carry one? again, simple answer....quote the great Jane Fonda: "not for the little people!" Guess who the "little people" are....
