Exclamation Let's Talk About Our Country

Well, how about it? Not to stir up the hornets nest or anything, but how do we all feel about our country. Let's talk about the homo's, and about the Iraqui Prisoner Abuse, and about all sorts of good stuff. If you're going to reply, take time to make a long, thought out response, try to effectively convey your ideas.

I don't like arguments or anything, I'm just hoping to derive a learning experience from this thread, since I myself am having a hard time understanding whats going on in our country.

Go for it, say whats on your mind...

Don't like your chances of not stirring up a hornet's nest, but good luck.

Yeah, I'm thinking about deleting it, might not have been such a great idea. But I'm REALLY not TRYING to, its just gonna happen. Maybe theres a book that was recently written to describe what I'm trying to figure out

I think if you just start reading back thru old threads, you'll get a good idea what people think anyway; this is a fairly political bunch.

I don't mean that in a negative sense; I mean they pay attention and care. I don't always agree with a lot of them, but what the heck.

Heh, okay, let's talk.

I like the fact that we're oppressed less than any other country.
I like that we have the balls to follow through and stand behind our convictions.
The fact that I can legally own firearms; a rarity among developed nations in this day and age.
The fact that people aren't allowed to stone me for whetever reason.

I don't like;
how people like to forget that this is a secular nation.
how people like to forget that "Secular" doesn't mean "total ban on all religion."
Los Angelas and San Fransisco.
how everyone i talk to about politics seems to hed their head so far up their Rear egress hatch that they can't recognise that i'm not being serious.
how people are too ready to forget that i'm hardley ever serious. about anything.
how people got into a tiff about that Abu graib thing. i mean come on, Naked men in a pile, being put on a leash and led around by a really butch looking woman while dogs bark a you, blasphemous quisine, heck, that's a normal saturday night in South Florida!

I'm all for gay marriage. If a gay man wants to marry a gay woman, have at it. According to the Springer Show thats the only couples that seem to be getting hitched anyway.

I'm not trying to be a smart azz, or trying to create problems, I'm just wondering how our gun carrying citizens feel, so if any of the Administrators feel that this thread is way to off topic to be here, by all means delete it, and I apologize for any inconvenience it creates.

In a democracy, there is no such thing as "Them" as in look what "they" are doing now. The government will be whatever we can all agree on, and work and fight together for.

Thumbs up

N2914J...Your question is a good one "...how do we all feel about our country?"
As one of the oldest members on G&G (I'm 68) , literally I've lived here long enough to have a thought or two on this. And as one who's worked with teenagers for 38 years...here goes.
-The sun will shine tomorrow regardless of how dim things may seem today.
-Not everyone is out to "get me" so I will tend to give them the benefit of the doubt...until or unless they prove otherwise. Then look out.
-Some of our youth may at times give the appearance that they don't care about anything, including about politics, about family traditions and values, about the importance of having a religion of their own choice, about their personal looks...and on and on and on and on...but I'm convinced this is all a false reading.
I've personally followed the lives of many of my former students and know that they will be allright, that they eventually clean up their earlier appearances, that they eventually develop patriotism and a personal religion, and that they will become solid citizens that we can become proud of, and that they will become some of the fiersiest fighters when they wear an American soldier's uniform. They will become complaining taxpayers just like their ancestors. They will eventually decide that skydiving and bungee jumping is for the younger generation, they will complain about how the youth of their time is "going to the dogs...and the cycle will repeat itself.
-In other words, I appreciate the opportunity to watch the younger generation grow into adhulthood, to watch them have fun, to watch them take chances in life, to benefit from their seemingless endless good ideas in all avenues of life, including medicical discoveries, business entrepreneurship, development of new "toys" for our entertainment, and to know that the future of mankind is in their hands. We "are" in their their hands so treat them well.:right:

wire tapping- I was listening to radio, and they said that they can ONLY do it if one party was outside the US. THAT IS CRAZY!!!!We have to do what we have to do to keep this beautiful country and its citizens safe. People are afraid of their privacy being encroched upon, but those individuals dont understand that the only time wire-tapping would occur is when there is reasonable evidence that you are planning an attack against America and our people.

As long as you don't meant it the way too many people meant it when I was young: "love it exactly as I think it should be and don't even think of arguing with the government or trying to improve anything about it, or you're some kind of commie pinko...and get a haircut!"

I love my country enough to try to change things I don't agree with.

I'm still thinking. don't want to be too long winded but, want to address the faults I see....like the patriot act, immagration, our border problem, taxes, liberals, our trade ploicies, walmart, the fact we are selling our future down the tubes and many other things too numerous to mention. but, on the whole, i love America and am glad to be an American! I hope america can be turned around so we can be as we once were...the greatest power on earth and we can be like we once were, free, proud and be able to buy "made in America" again! But, i want to see the greedy oil barrons roasting on a spit....fat chance of that, right?

that logic is a slippery slope, cheif. there are other reasons the government could spy on you.

politicians, by nature, seek power. However, power can neither be created nor destroyed. It can only be converted. and so, in order for polaticians to get more power, it must be taken from the citizenry.

the assumption that the government has nothing but the people's best interest in mind is a dangerous mistake, not to say all government is evil, mind you, only that one should always be suspicious of it.

Cool

Good advice.
On another tact, those of us that have any money left and can invest it for five years are advised by those in the know that gold is the thing,up to $517.00 an ounce now from a low of $312.00 and expected to reach $1000.00 in the next five years.
Oil stocks, the price is expected to level out at $80.00 a bbl,now $57.00.
Bonds will stay about where they are now, maybe rise to5 1/4%.not a good investment.
For the rest of us,well, sooner or later the piper will have to bo paid, only all the good paying jobs will have been outsourced and the rest of us won't be making enough to pay the taxes required, but perhaps we can make the interest payments due to the doller being devaluated by an exchange rate of $1000.00 to the ounce of gold, yeah, that might do it for a while.
