when you say Tampa on your location, i assume you are reffering to Florida. Are you saying you can smell smoke from Florida?!?!?!
*hums we dont need no water* ahem... er... personally id fight fire with fire.. preburn it about a mile in advance or so and go from there. put your resources into limiting where it can go.. used to have to do that a bit in texas -- too difficult to end it where its at, you have to stop where it will be going, otherwise your moving behind it. these people with garden hoses have the wrong idea. go out and put some kind of barrier or use the hose to keep what your going to burn under control. hack down any trees close enough to be trouble... *shrugs* otherwise use some kind of blast to blow out the fire.. hey, it worked for john wayne in hellfighters
I'm gonna be heading down that way in a couple days. I usually go down I-35 from Kansas to Dallas. Should I saty west and go through Colorado Springs and Amarillo instead or is it far enough off the beaten path?

inuyasha, they would but that would only compound the problem. Too dry to pull that trick. Works for smaller fires - it would only spark more fires with the winds they are encountering. Just hope they don't blow north.

I really wouldn't worry about it if going that alternit way is a lot of trouble, these are a lot of small fires and get put out but lots more pop up,conditions are just waiting for a cigarette to be flipped out a window or just about any spark, really dry!
It's a vicious never-ending cycle that has been goingn on since Earth was created and has become widely noticed in the past 75 years due to modern communications.
I hope everyone in Oklahoma is safe and not many more homes are lost.
I see several of those fires each year right here in Arizona and I can appreciate the destruction.
I sure do.
