Troy we have control and its our right to keep the communists from passing thier bills that what happens when we get the majority powers

Unfortunately iflylow74, that isn't strictly true.

While the party in power has always had its little ways of abusing majority rule in the House, the Republicans have taken that sort of stuff to new heights. When the Class of '94 took power under the leadership of Newt Gingrich, they came in with a chip on their shoulder. They believed they had a mandate to do whatever they wanted to, and Newt encouraged them to consider Democratic (and moderate Republican) Congressmen as the enemy, rather than as colleagues they happened to disagree with on some issues.

I think it's a recipe for disaster when the Repulican leaders sit down with paid lobbyists to hammer out a bill in private with no public hearings or debate, and with no input from their colleagues across the aisle, and when they do things like introducing the final, heavily modified version of a bill without even giving the members of their own party time to read it, forbidding further discussions or amendments, and ramming it through. We get things like this Medicare Drug Benefit debacle, where the government is specifically forbidden to negotiate with the drug companies for better prices, and where the implementation is completely screwed up.

While things may be rough right now, I hardly think the nation is on the brink of total chaos. We've been through a Civil War and the Depression and two world wars. Plus the Cold War with it's constant threat of thermonuclear annihlation. This current era isn't anywhere near the crisis of those times. Why does everyone seem to think we are about to crash into the sun or something?

Just out of curiosity, why do we need to put a foot up anything of China's at the moment. Diplomatic relations are going well. They're even helping with the N. Korean situation at the moment. I'm certainly aware of deep seated, underlying problems but none any worse than what we have with other countries.

Ahh, we're always on the brink of disaster. Been there for two hundred and thirty years now.

But the fact that we'll probably survive this administration doesn't mean there isn't some damage being done...

That has happened every single time the Democrats were in power, hasn't it? Look at the way Roosevelt rolled over and surrendered to the Japs as soon as they hit Pearl Harbor...dang pacifist Democrats!

I just can't understand why everyone blames China for our woes. We offer them the cake and complain because they accept it. put the blame where it belongs...on our greed politicians and on greedy business folks. If it were not for them, we'd still make clothes here and maybe, some of the business that used to be here would still be here. It's not china's fault nothing is made in America anymore.

Excellent point, RRJ!!!

American consumers deserve a little blame too for looking for cheap, no matter what the ultimate cost.

thank you, Father Time...we are old enough to remember "made in America"...and honest enough to lay the blame where it belongs.

You gotta remember...politicians are like Bananas...first they are green, they hang in bunches, then they are Yellow, and then they are ROTTEN !
The American Dollar is only worth 4 cents right now, Gold is 540.00 an ounce,If we aren't at the brink of economic collapse and a real depression due to our Debt and trade deficit with countries like China, Then where are we ? The Clinton Era Free trade agreement Has a lot of our manufacturing now " Hecho en Mexico" and still our borders are being compromised by Mexicans, And Chinese Immigrants are coming thru Panama and up into the U.S. in droves as well, so even Buying lots of Chinese CRAP hasn't kept them working in there own country. Our government has Taxed and spent it way into this hole we are in, and It ain't George Bush that did it. CONgress is the culprit, which the opposite of PROgress ! See the first sentence !

Reckon she remembers you? In my experience, very few people in power anywhere, remember the average Joe, but you can bet that old Joe remembers what he lost or gained under a particular politician. Personally, I feel less of a threat to my ownership of guns, am working in the best job I've ever had, and am glad that we have a president who isn't "Monica'ing" every two bit terrorist that comes down the pike. The biggest difference that I see w\Bush is that he's more open about his goals. He's stated his positions and is sticking to his guns on them. I guess it all depends on what radio shows you listen to and who you want to believe. He was a good governor here in Tx. and has been faced with a situation never seen in this country, but hey, we could all do a better job than whoever's sitting in the big chair, right?
