Wolf Control program Halted

Well, today in Alaska a Judge sided with "friends of animals" and halted the aerial winter hunts to thin out the Wolf population in areas that Moose and Caribou numbers have dwindled. Basically a tool that Alaska Dept of Fish and Game uses to do its job was ruled "against the rules" ! Local Pilots and Guides were contracting the jobs where they had to land and shoot,Harvest the Wolves, bring em to ADFG... they are now Grounded. "Friends of Animals" is an animal rights, anti-hunting, pro-Wolf Organization Not even based in Alaska, they are Sueing and tying up our courts and Our Biologist's hands. They could care less that 1000 wolves can kill 40,000 Caribou a year,25,000 moose calves ,1000's of Sheep,The Wolves get to hunt year round where I can only hunt a short season and take only 1 Animal. They should be called Friends of Predators , Because they sure don't care about the Edible ones!!!
Yes , I'm MAD as !!!! that outsiders are messing in my backyard !

Right on, Mooseman! I'd be enraged too. Wish those wolves were howling outside their headquarters and eating them when they left the office.

On the news here tonight.
The biggest terrorist threat in the US is the animal righter's. I forget the name of one of the two they said about, but it was the branch of PETA.

Ain't it time something was done about these terrorists?

As much as I love the idea of letting wolves run wild, for heaven's sake when their growing population has such a hurting impact on other wildlife then something should be done to control it. In any case, it should be delt with by those who actually know what is happening in their own backyard, not by those who want to drag the "case" before the courts. Hmmm...I never thought "crying wolf!" was a plea FROM the wolf...

Well, the story has gone National and the Media has done it again...They wrote up the story implying that wolves were being shot from the AIR while the Planes were flying and that is just NOT TRUE. Sure, the planes were flying to SPOT the Wolves from the air, but, they had to LAND and SHOOT and retrieve them. 400 wolves were targeted out of an estimated 7000 to 10,000 and only in areas where Game populations are in severe decline. Wolves are NOT endangered or threatened species here in Alaska, But the Media writes these News Stories so as to sway public opinion , and I think it is a lot of El Toro PooPoo ! When it comes to the News...Believe Half of what you see and None of what you Hear !
ADF&G is currently reviewing the problems that the Judge asserted and working toward getting the program in compliance so it can resume ASAP !
I'll keep the forum posted with updates as they Happen !

UPDATE.......UPDATE........UPDATE 02/02/06
Alaska's board of Game presented the Judge a revision in the policy made after a week of deliberation, and after review......
WOLF HUNTING / PREDATOR CONTROL is BACK ON TRACK !
To top that off, they also legalized the selling of BEAR HIDES/CLAWS/and
SKULLS from some of the Predator control areas to entice more Bear hunters into those areas...Something that has never been legal before ! They did this to increase Moose populations in 5 ares of the state where aerial Wolf hunting is allowed! Officials estimate there are 30 to 40 thousand Brown bears and over 100 thousand Black bears in the State.

( God, I LOVE this Place!)

Back when I was a meter reader for my company, one of my more interesting days involved a wolf.

I let myself thru a gate one afternoon to go around the back of the house and read a meter on the other side, and came face to face with a female German Shepherd. I kept walking into her as she gave a little ground, and thought, "good-looking dog." Right behind her was a big young one, and I looked him over and thought, "good-looking wolf cross, too. Wonder where Papa Wolf is?" And as I rounded the corner, I said, "Oh. He's right here..."

I'm no psychologist, but I know dogs. And you don't slow down, speed up or reverse direction on a dog in a tense situation; you don't want to trigger anything. So I kept walking, and he stayed frozen. I mean, not a muscle twitched. If the wind hadn't stirred his fur a little, I'd have thought he was a statue. Then I noticed his eyes were moving with me. I walked past him at about five feet, and when I got far enough he turned his head just barely enough to keep tracking me with his eyes.

I went on around the second corner, read the meter and started back, and he hadn't moved. As I went by he barely shifted his head one more time to watch me walk past, and otherwise never moved a muscle.

I walked past the other two, told the Shepherd, "good-looking kid you got there, Mama," and let myself out the gate again. When I got back to my truck, I realized the t-shirt under my uniform was soaking wet. I stopped at a gas station and stripped out of it, so I could stop shivering in the winter air.
