Question Doing it for the children.

Heard on Fox last night that President Bush wants to monitor Google to see how many folks are downloading child porn,Google is resisting.
Didn't know that they carried such stuff as child porn.

they Allready monitor Googel
the problem is Child Porn is not illegal everywhere.
In some places in the world sex with children is not concidered abnormal.
as repugnant as that sounds to us, it wont change the fact that the World
Wide Web is covering the entire World and in the World there are people that have sex with children.
and they want to look at pictures of it.
trying to control the internet is like trying to control the rotation of the earth
Good luck!

In my opinion, it is the act of producing child pornography that should be targeted instead of ownership of the materials. Owners of the materials should be investigated for purposes of tracing to the source, not for their own prosecution.

Next on liberal agendas:
1. People who search "How to legally purchase a firearm".

This must stop. This is a very stupid idea. While I am 100% against child pornography, I just feel this is an invasion of privacy.

They want to watch how much snopping they do.

If they try to 'control' the web to much well it will only be a matter of time before some kind of alternitive 'web' turns up that they will have NO control of in the way of content, or any idea what-so-ever is on it.

I agree that you can't prohibit the ownership or viewing of material because giving that power to government will allow them to decide than anything could be inappropriate.

I believe that the only way to stop any of it is to prosecute the production of the material, not the material itself.

And I don't believe there would need to be any new laws on the subject. Anywhere that prostitution is illegal I would think one could prosecute a good portion of pornography. Consider that it involves a person being paid to perform a sexual act, even if not intercourse.

Now this wouldn't do anything to stop nude photographing where one could argue that a sexual act is not being performed. But it would seem that prostitution laws are a better grounds to criminalize at least a large part of the pornography out there instead of criminalizing ownership of material. The most I could think should be done with owners of that material would be questioning as part of an investigation to the sources.

At a seminar I attended about being aware of child abuse of all kinds, we were told that there are three priorities that must be observed in order.
1. Protect the child.
2. Stop the offender from doing anything more against anyone else.
3. Seek help for those who have been hurt.

If government agencies are pursuing those who view the material instead of getting to the bottom of things and stopping the exploitation of the children, then they have their priorities way off.

Yeah but how many attacks on the US have there been since 911? I believe Hitler said something to the fact that "certain changes have to be made for a safer Germany" Sounds similar doesn't it.

To boil it down, the Bushies have demanded a complete record of searches conducted thru Google for a seven-day period, and one million web addresses pulled at random from their files. This is a fact-finding action (interpretation: fishing expedition) supposedly meant to bolster their case when they go in front of the Supreme Court again on the subject of regulating child porn.

I don't believe it's Google's job to gather information on the general public for the benefit of a bunch of pencil-necked political geeks whose real agenda is a desire to add another bit of spice to their "Gays, Guns and God" pandering in the next election.

See my earlier post about Google for more on the subject, including the news article and people's responses.

Read in the paper today that it wasn't about child porn at all,the story has morphed from child porn to keeping the kiddies from having access to porn.
This reminds me of the line of BS we were expected to sniff at Waco,if one story doesn't appear to justify what the gummint wants to do keep trying until you get it right.
I have been seeing that same line of BS for forty years, all the way back to early Viet Nam.
The strange thing is.is that it seems to always work!

I think one thing we should have all learned by now is that you can only trust a small percentage of the news info on the internet as being accurate....totally accurate.

I get frustrated with reports of 'this person is trying to do this' or 'this agency is looking at this' just to later find out it's some story thats either twisted to suit whichever political club that might benefit or it was never said or done at all.

...but it isn't "liberals" trying to snoop into Google's records; it's the Bush Administration.

Well That makes it a LOT WORSE. That is proof that their snooping big time! When it was them trying to stop kiddie porn well no one would mind them stopping that.

But this is straight invasion of privacy, it's none of their business if I have a look for a bit of girl on girl. I'm of a legal age, it's also up to ME to make sure my six year old doesn't have access to it.
They want to be nailed for this, it's just straight out wrong.

To me it's the same principal as the line of crap they expected us to sniff during the whole W**o tragedy, first it was drugs, then it was the kiddies, then the dehumanizing process of calling them a cult, not people, then the attack when they could have gotten him many times outside of the compound.
Remember, they did it for the children, the Klintons always used that line, even when soliciting money for Klintons lawyers during the bimbo eruptions,ya'll remeber that don't ya'?
Anyway it isn't Republicans or Democrats,it's people in power abusing that same power we gave them.Shame, shame!
