My first thought is no. Maybe you could build one for cheaper than that? I always see kits on Centerfire for like $150, and I know the receivers are like less than $50 arn't they? But you have to do the bending and what not yourself right?

You can ONLY if you do not count your efforts as a cost.

You can get a low cap WASR in the low 200s and a Saiga X39 in the mid 200s new. Neither takes military mags in that state.

The advantage of doing it this way is if you have particular preferences in the way you want it and would change it anyway, or if you particularly like the Saiga series as I do.

Don't do it to save money, and forget it if you don't have knowledge and skill. Do it to have an AK your way without paying more than you have to.

Building is also an option there, but again you REALLY have to know what you're doing. I recommend owning an AK before building an AK.

Also, check the sticky for parts compliance issues. US compliance parts cost money too. But there again you can save by not spending your money twice. Tapco's G2 trigger group is worlds better than Century's trigger group used in the WASR rifles.

NRAJOE is dead on about saving for a gun that's better. If a $300 AK is all you want in an AK, then get one, but if you'd rather have something better, don't waste money on less than you want, just save for what you really do want and pull out all the stops.

Century has them from $299-$399, WASRs. Depends on how much fluff (folding stocks, composite handguards, bayonet lug, etc.) you want. Also Yugo underfolders for $419.

Yes, they have to go thru a 01FFL, but since I have a C&R FFL, mine only charges $15 for up to 3 firearms.
