Alaska leading the Way against Confiscation!

Just Got the wording of House Bill 400 from Our Local LIO.

It Reads: "An Act relating to disasters and Confiscation of Firearms"
Be it Enacted By the Legislature of the State of Alaska:
*sec.2 AS 26.23 is amended to read:
Sec. 26.23.205 CONFISCATION OF FIREARMS. A person who knowingly confiscates, attempts to confiscate, OR orders the confiscation of a firearm during a disaster emergency is GUILTY of a Class A FELONY and shall be punished as provided in AS 12.55. In this section,"knowingly" has the meaning given in AS 11.81.900.

We have some Very Good Politicians here in Alaska that are Pro Gun!
I will advise everyone if this Passes! God Bless Alaska!

What do you think will happen if say you got a simple majority in the house and senate to pass a firearms ban? And say there was a good chance they had enough judges on the court to go along with it. Would conservative states bump the system and resist? I can imagine a migration of gun toting citizens heading to friendlier borders.

Update on SB400...ON tuesday in committee Democrat Senator Gruenberg amended the legislation changing the penalty from a Class A felony to a Class C felony, and one Democrat abstained from voting. Whats the Difference, you ask...Class A fine is 250,000 dollars, Class C is 50,000 dollar fine, and jail time is up to the judge.
New Hampshire's legislature has the same law being proposed with Class A felony penalty for confiscation.

I'll keep you posted !

Alaska Governor Signs Emergency Powers Legislation!

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, government officials in Louisiana confiscated legal, privately owned firearms from law-abiding citizens. This left citizens defenseless against armed looters and other criminals.

Governor Murkowski made sure this would never happen in Alaska!

On Monday, May 22, Governor Frank Murkowski (R) signed House Bill 400, the "Emergency Powers" legislation. This important legislation prevents government officials from imposing restrictions on the lawful possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display or use of firearms and ammunition during a disaster emergency.

Congratulations, Alaska!:target:

This is Great, but its a shame that they have to pass a law to protect a right guarenteed by the Bill of Rights.

As written, a cop could be popped for taking a gun away from someone caught committing a crime with it, just because a disaster has been declared.

Troy your reading way to much into it.
:uzi: The Committed Crime supercedes this bill and negates any protection to the Crimminal because of a disaster.
Peace out, man.

You're assuming people would be acting in good faith and with good sense. I like things spelled out.
