Of all the medals in the military there was one that I absolutely hated. It was called the Navy Achievment Award. Unless that award hung on a chest full of combat ribbons it was worthless. It was a ribbon for asskissers. Ugly green and orange ribbon. It denoted to me a asskisser who screwed over many a sailor to get it. I am sure there was legitimate awards handed out, but most asskissers expected them.

The Air Force has a crap load of them I admit. It took me many years to see that they are set up as a road map of a career basically. Not many war hero types there, but a lot of road markers. Long tours, short tours, longevity, good conduct, PME's, Marksmanship. You can look at someone in thier blues and get a general idea of some of the things they have accomplished during thier career.
Anyone have one of these?

In my Navy days I got real tired of explaining to CC's and Chiefs why I had an Airforce Good Conduct ribbon (automatic 'attaboy' award) and three hash marks, while I was only a lowly ET3 (E-4). :guitar:
Got me another 'Attaboy' for doing 90 days of watery donuts off the shore of Beirut in the early eighties. We never fired a shot in anger, but qualified for the "Expeditionary Award".
Most fruit salad is just fluff. If I see a bunch of scars on a GI's body, I give it much more honor! He earned them the hard way.
