Turning 40

I step into the realm of Official Middle Ageddom next week . I recently left my job !!! a Plumber/Propane Tech to return to the world of Emergency Medicine /Critical Care . I finish school in 4 months , after that I am leaving New York ! I want to head out West and use my medical abilities. Vegas sounds like a good place to start.
My plans are to liquidate myself of all my non needed worldly goods . My friends GrandParents have a nice Camper/Van I could probably get cheap if not next to nothing . Use it and get out of a life I feel hasn't been much fun to live since I got out of the service. Long Island where I live is a place of averages. Way to expensive and too many !!!!!!!!!.
I miss the deserts of California, the views of Hawaii, not to mention the scuba diving I did there. Just me and my dog miguel and my AK's and AR15's hitting the road later this year. I am between girlfriends so I won't have that hassle.
My brother owns a house in Vegas that he might like to unload since he and his girlfriend are looking to unburden their monthly bills. I have yet to see it but I hear it is pretty nice. I am going to Vegas in March to look around for employment opportunities kinda treading the waters.
W/B this thread with your thoughts on turning 40.

I feel your pain. I hit 40 back in December. I would love to have a mid life crisis but don't have time. Having a family albeit not bad, keeps me grounded.
My only saving grace is my Mil career. My mind wanted me to pick up and join para rescue, NOMADS, or something. Age won't let me. So, I settled on a new adventure. after 20 years of wrenching jets and spark chasing, took a job as a First Sergeant. I'm getting a little bit of that "kick" I like it.
Did my PT this weekend and ran about 40 seconds behind an 18 year old kid. I told him at the end I was trying like h3ll to catch him. He said he was trying like h3ll to out run me, couldn't let someone in supervision beat him, LOL.
In the mean time, I hunt, fish, take care of my family and do the Industrial sales thing in my civi life. In my little brain, I'm jumping out of helicopters rescuing downed pilots and hunting in Montana with Hank Williams Jr.
Enjoy 40, it's not too bad. Good luck with your endevors. I envy you :right:

Wink

Big 4-0 huh, well it's no big deal, unless you get hit by a loaded tanker truck like I did(back and neck surgery.)
50 was kind of depressing, but it gave me a good excuse to complain.
60 was great, had prostate cancer surgery on my 60th birthday.
Now at 62 I am waiting for the ax to fall,or not!

Rave...what a nice problem to have...facing only one 40. I'm closer to two 40's than one (68). But then...it's only a number. So now you can get off the 39 which some of us were at for several years.:right:
Best to you as you sort through the next phase(s) of your life. :cheer:

WK Right behind you there. Long Island? I have an Aunt there. She fits the profile. Ever feel like a duck out of water living there?. Good luck with the new life. I know it can work wonders.

you tell em father time, why you young whippersappers, when I was your age I walked 3 miles through the snow to school. We were so poor I had to wear worn out nylons for shoes. My mother packed old tissue paper for my lunch, and washed it down with stored sewer water. My clothes were so worn we darned them with old fishing line, Hooks still attached. After school I took a job cleaning dog poop off of cow pies.

Hey youngsters, both of my kids are older than most of you!

I could run a couple of miles without worrying about a heart attack, but then why run? Walking just takes longer and time is a relative thing, at least that is what Einstein claimed!

Rave, I was in St Pete about 5 years ago for a couple of weeks for my work. I had to check out some software that my company was buying from Honeywell. Had I known you were around that area, I would have asked you and yours out for dinner. I retired 4 years ago, so its not too likely I will be in that area any time soon again.
