Cold turkey for me 2+ years the first time and I am now smoke free for nearly 2 years. No desire to go back and I believe after 20 years I am starting to show signs of Chronic Bronchitis.

when I was smoking it never seemed to bother me and after I quit, its prednisone and alupent inhalers. The doc told me this is common that smoking causes things that dont show up untill after you quit

The gum helps, replaces one habit with another, you`ll bite the inside of you mouth alot, and your tongue which is really annoying. But seriously the key is determination. You gotta tell yourself, `you can want one all you like, but you aint getting one!` Don`t say `Well, I`ll see how I go ` say: `Thats it!, no more!! Stick it out man, in 2 weeks you`ll feel better, 3 or 4 and you can `taste ` things you couldnt before. I smoked 40 - 50 a day, I liked them alot, but I like my kids more.. Also you can`t comprehend what the things cost here, its like 12 bucks or more for 25 Marlboro, I was spending quite a few grand a year to feel like crap. You can do it! If only to prove all the nay sayers wrong!

Did anyone notice that a pack of smokes costs the same as 20 Wolf 7.62 x 39rounds. Everytime I go to my range I know with every trigger pull I traded once vice for another.

I've quit literally hundreds of thousands of times. Sometimes for as long as 20 or 25 minutes. I never get colds or flu, but I know that I'll pay someday. I hope the years that I am giving up are the ones where they feed me applesauce with a spoon, and I have to look at my drivers license to remember who I am.

Cool

I quit cold turkey 29 years ago,the roof of my mouth started getting sore.
You have to be motivated at the time you try, then it isn't too bad.

I quit somking when I was 23 years old, and I did some other changes at the same time. It was a whole diferent change of taste. I started drinking coffee black without sugar, stopped useing salt, mustard is about the only condiment that I use. I woke up one morning coughing up a lung and decided to quit, and I went one day at a time, for the first couple of days it was one hour at a time, after a couple of weeks I stopped dreaming about cigarettes, and I had it beat. Good luck. If we can help let us know.

I've been puffing for 5 years and everytime it gets harder to cut down. I am down to about five a day. I was quit for 6 months but one night at the bar squashed that. Besides, nobody likes a quiter. Everybody is different and everybodies chemical balance is effected differently, so try all the tips and see what works for you. Cold turkey is the only real way to quit.

I had been wanting to quit and I pulled the string and wrapper of a pack of cigerettes and for some reason decided to twist the whole pack and tear them in two and threw them in the waist basket. I don't want to sound corny or religeous but at that moment I was delivered and never had the desire to smoke again. My wife on the other hand, chewed the gum and it took her about three months to get over the craving. I think it is harder for women to quit.
